One of the teams that pops up constantly in expansion discussions in North Carolina. According to InsideCarolina, the Tar Heels are eyeing a spot inside the SEC ‘in the near future.’

Yahoo Sports noted the exit fee to leave the ACC drops to $75 million in the 2030-31 school year, which may be easier for North Carolina to stomach if it did make the move. However, it remains to be seen if the SEC would accept the Tar Heels in the first place.

BIG NO!

If any ACC schools joined the SEC, two of Clemson, Miami, and FSU make more sense.

Memphis goes to the ACC, UNC comes to the SEC, and Missouri goes..... does anyone really care where Missouri goes?
Nothing should surprise me anymore but I can’t imagine Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech letting Memphis in. Memphis is light years away from those schools academically.

I'd not thought of UVA getting to look at Memphis academically. That made me actually laugh out loud.

I was thinking about the TV profile but you're correct.

NC, NCSt or Duke, and UVA make a whole lot more sense for TV ratings/deals. Miami, FSU, Clemson, GATech, VATech, bring little new to beef up a TV deal.

VATech has a small fanbase. Miami, FSU, Clemson, and GATech have TV audiences overlapped with a team already in the SEC.

The ACC should listen to Memphis. SMU has to be thinking a portion of the Memphis $$ could soften their conference buy-in price.

Man, a handle like "stickseller" lends itself to so many good juvenile jokes but I'm going to assume you deal in tobacco.

And I don't mind Missouri, really. Good school, just a stupid fit for the SEC.
Thanks, and the quick story on why we are here. We are in the SEC because of Oklahoma. Mizzou and OU were working together to keep and strengthen the Big 12. OU and OSU met with the PACK 12 about going there while working with Mizzou. NOT GOOD! The Florida AD at the time was from Cheaterfield, a St. Louis suburb. He told MU the SEC has 13 and needs a 14th. Basically, if you’re coming, come now!
We Missouri folks were born at night but not last night. We made a good decision to come and we are happy and proud to be members of the SEC. We strive to do our best to support the conference.

That's about what I recall. I'm not crazy about it but I understand that expansion is about media coverage too, these days, which Missouri provides and you guys (not using y'all so you can understand 😁) certainly help the conference academic profile (that's a guess.)

Honestly, most of us would give you and OU back to the Big 12 in a heartbeat. Nothing personal, it's just a Southeastern tradition thing. Great school, though, seriously.

On a follow up note, OU and Mizzou have NO desire to go back to Ames Iowa in the dead of winter. 🥶

I don’t want the SEC to expand at all-I want the conference to shrink, instead. But if we must expand…. Let’s bring Georgia Tech back (they never should’ve left anyway), and bring the Hokies aboard (wish they’d come instead of Mizzou). To hell with the Heels, Noles, Clemson and Duke. Texas and OU are bad enough, the last thing we need are any of those 4.

It has come full circle, when I was really young (a kid), for some reason I thought North Carolina was in the SEC...

I imagine if SEC adds UNC, they won't be alone. They will likely bring UVA or Duke with them.

UNC is probably the second most coveted brand left in expansion outside of Notre Dame. I truly hope that whatever they do, they are a package deal w/ Duke. Would be the dumbest thing ever to fracture the best rivalry in college basketball and arguably college sports .
