ACC adopts 72-player limit for conference games

The league also gave commissioner John Swofford authority to push for an early signing day for football. Coaches hope Swofford can get a December signing date passed at the Conference Commissioners Association meeting next month in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Football is currently the only NCAA sport without an early signing day.

Early signing day would be really good. Just let kids out if theres a coaching change or something similar.

I don't know if this would be good for us. Our coaching staff seems to like prying recruits form other teams late in the process.

At first glance, it would seem that it wouldn't make much of a difference. CEO and CLK could simply move their last minute push up a month or two.

Then it occurs to me that the last minute push might be happening when football games are still being played.

A big difference would be the relationship of the signing period to the time frame in which coaching changes typically occur. Those coaching changes are often a factor in last minute committments.
