ACC Championship: Clemson vs. SMU

How is it about money? People are gonna watch no matter what. Home teams are gonna sellout no matter what.
You’re right. People are gonna watch no matter what. But who gives you better ratings and money? The committee plays that game whether people wanna realize it or not.

I think that’s the excuse they’re gonna use for dropping SMU and keeping Alabama

here is the deal - either strength of schedule matters or it doesn't. We can't complain about PSU, Texas, etc. being higher when they haven't played anyone and then complain if the committee decides to select a team that has a better resume because we don't like the team.

If it was between us and SMU, everyone would be making the argument that SMU had not beaten a ranked team.

SMU was beaten by a three-loss team that had lost to Georgia and South Carolina. Alabama beat both Georgia and South Carolina. Like it or not they are the "better team" based on their resume.

Guys look at what the committee has a chance to do tomorrow. A potential Bama at Notre Dame 1st round matchup. Ratings equals big money. Again, I may be wrong about Bama being left out, but I’ve gotta feeling they stay.
If they leave SMU out then conference championship games will be finished. No team will want to play a conference championship if it means losing a spot in the playoffs to a team that didn’t make it

If they leave out SMU for Bama that’s exactly what this is.
It makes sense that it’s for money. I just don’t see how they can do that. None of the committee members are supposed to have anything to gain by fixing tv ratings. That sounds illegal since the schools and conferences who are excluded would suffer financially.

FSU and the state of Florida would love to have someone to sue after last year.

Think about it logically. It’s all about how can they make the most money.
They’d for sure rather have bama than smu in the playoff.

I'm sure that's the bottom line but if so just say it out loud and stop coming up with bulls*** spin.

It will probably lead to them expanding to 16 teams in about 5 years.

If that’s true, then the committee’s job is to fix tv ratings and not to put the best teams in.
The committee's job is to fix the best TV ratings AND justify, in some way, why they did that.

Being on the committee sucks tonight because it's going to be really, really hard to justify Bama in and really, really hard to leave that market out.

"Right" depends on whether they value the money over what SMU earned.

What I've seen is this: the committee say they looked at who would win in a neutral field game between SMU and Bama...... that's Bama.

SOS matters to the committee until it doesn’t. It hasn’t hurt PSU all year, and they may be hosting a first round game.

If SOS didn’t matter for PSU then it shouldn’t matter for Bama and tough luck for them losing to Vandy and choking big time against OK.

Two days before the game and just had 80 guys test positive for Covid.

I think Bama is the better team.

But they didn’t do what they needed with the schedule they had, SMU did. If they punish SMU for losing in a last second field goal in a conference championship game then there will be no incentive to play conference championship games.

It’ll ruin them forever.

So you actually think SMU is a better team than Bama? Really??????????
Bama got blown out just a couple weeks ago by a .500 team, facts are facts. Yes they beat Georgia and SC, but it was at home by a whopping combined 9 points. How do you leave a team out of the playoff that has 1 less loss than the conference champion and only lost by 3 in the championship game?

The committee’s conundrum is to either (A) not pick the better TV draw with ‘Bama for possibly only 1 game in these playoffs OR (B) destroy all legitimacy of conference championship games moving forward in the playoff era by leaving out SMU.

To me they kinda have been put on the same level as a conference basketball tournament championship, nice but probably not necessary for the major conferences and only needed if you're a mid-major.

Wandered over to SEC Rant. Bammers over there are having much the same conversations we are here. Most are accepting the fact that if the don't get in, it's their own fault by stumbling against OU and Vandy. A couple are saying Bama's history, Top 25 wins and SOS will carry the day and get them in. Will have to wait and see what the committee does to see if there will be an epic come apart.

If SOS mattered than Tennessee would be ranked over Texas

It’s two fold. Being better isn’t the only thing, it also has to be earned. Yes Bama is better, but the crapped the bed against Vandy and OK. Sorry, Bama didn’t take care of business against who they should and SMU did.
Bama has had more inconsistent games where they’re just bad. On a good day of course they’re better than SMU but SMU is more consistent. Bama has some good wins but damn they have some ugly losses as well. I mean getting beat by OU by three TDs?
