Academic report from GVX....

Are you saying the players didn't love Kiffin?

Kiffin had the team quit on him, twice. Against a better VT team (which we were in until D. Moore dropped the wde open TD pass) and against Ole Miss who McCluster'd us to death.

The players definitely loved Kiffin. He was one of them. There isn't more of a player's coach than Kiffin. He relates to players extremely well.

Dan Williams was the only vol to have 3 tackles a game besides Eric Berry in 2008. He was great in 2008.

Hardesty had Arian Foster in front of him with the clawfence and he was injury prone.

Ooh... 3 tackles a game on an awful team. Orgeron took Dan Williams from 4-5th round pick and made him a 1st rounder.

I may be on a fog from all the stuff floating around but it seems like crompton looked great in early career appearances but never really looked as good.

He was great at throwing the ball and having Meachem bail him out. He had outstanding arm strength, just not the mental aspect of the game.

Crompton had better stats than Locker in 2009. Why is he still on a NFL team if he is so bad. Do you know how hard it is for a qb to have a different OC? Let alone 3 in 4 years in college.

I do agree that I have a limited knowledge of football, but he went from getting death threats from VFLs to getting drafted by into the NFL.

You said Williams wasn't going to get drafted. Thats a huge difference. The defense was third in the nation in 08. That team was talented, they just underachieved badly. Williams had good stats in 08.

Thats what I thought you were saying. Orgeron is a great dline coach, he of course made Williams better, but Williams was already a good dt.

Williams was a 4-5 rd. pick - 1st round.

Hardesty was a 5-6 rd. pick - 2nd round

Crompton was not getting drafted - 5th round

ETA: Both McClendon and Scott also benefited greatly for blocking for a 1400 yard rusher.

Isn't he considered a player friendly coach? Most of the players did like him. And some of the ones that liked him, quit on him as well.
Like I said, no coach is immune to it. And I was on the sideline at that hot ass field for Ole Miss and we didn't want to get off the bus. That was before we got McClustered and elder Kiffin was so hot he decided not to mess with changing up the D.

It seemed like most players would have run through a brick wall for Kiffin and staff. You had a few (read: benchwarmers) who seemed to complain about him stepping on traditions and ****.

No argument there. The Ole Miss game was a mixture of an off day for us and Ole Miss playing the best game of their year that day. Also, they wanted to stick it to Orgeron.

Scott started since he was a sophomore and was a starter on the offensive line in 07 that only allowed Ainge to get sacked 3 times, and the 08 line only allowed 4 sacks all year.

Mcclendon was a physical freak and was a starter on the oline since he was a sophomore.

I think you are confusing starts with actual talent, especially talent that translates to the NFL.

McClendon was a huge let down. He under achieved his whole career here.

Dude was breaking into the starting line up his freshman year only to have the most average career and was routinely beat by good Dlinemen.

Yet he plays in the NFL and holds the UT bench press record.

I disagree. I think him, Josh Mcneil (pre-injury), and Chris Scott were very good linemen.

Or maybe he's a stud and was coached terribly.

So why hasn't he seen the field in any meaningful situation or even been remotely praised by either team he's been on?

He was coached terrible in high school - I know that - but he never fulfilled his potential at UT.. and coaching can only do so much.

It's hard as hell to make an NFL roster. You have talent if you are on one.
I think he was part of the Clawfense at some point, and it was probably psychologically damaging.
