Absolutely horrible loss today

I think our players are too worried about the refs and look soft. As "strong" and "physical" as Grant and Admiral are they are on the floor holding something, starring down the refs, or complaining to them half the time. If anybody needs to be riding the refs ass its Barnes. He usually is just sitting over there. He did chase the refs down after the game but the outcome was decided. Will Wade was up their ass the whole game giving them hell. Watch Calipari. He dont shut the hell up either. At the end of the day look who gets the iffy calls.

I love this team, but they have been engaged in a disappearing act all season (and most of last year as well).

Every game, the team disappears for a 5-7+ minute stretch, which either puts them in a significant hole to dig out of or evaporates a lead. There has been no better example than the last two weeks. Started the 2nd half against KY by giving up a 14-0 run. Today, we blew a 9 point lead in the 2nd half.

I don’t know why, but this has been a long term problem for these players. It’s unfortunate because it is finally showing up and costing them the biggest games in the biggest season in Vols basketball history. They have to find a way to play a complete 40 mins or this will be an unfortunate ending to a potentially program changing season.

Absolutely, part of it stems from the fact that the offense consists of two players and when either of them go cold we don’t seem to be able to run a lot of set plays for other players. I like Barnes but I am not convinced that this team hasn’t reached its potential and this is it. A good team that can win a lot of games but doesn’t have the elite level of talent required to reach a Final Four. A team full of veterans is great to have but when they play against NBA caliber players they are just a step or two too slow with exceptions of Williams/Schofield. That doesn’t mean this team can’t get on a run but you can tell their confidence is a little shaken. They really need a win over UK to get their confidence back

Bone hasn’t been his usual self the last few games and Bowden isn’t running like he was.
You left out the saddest playing player I've seen since we've lost our swagger and that's L.Turner. The ball simply isn't dropping for him. Today he had time to dish the ball off for the go-ahead score but he tried a 3-pointer. Same results......another miss. Bone had an issue with his stomach today. I don't know what's up with Bowden but he's playing better than Turner even if his play isn't as good as it was. May have been a tough loss but refs once again favored our opponent on their home court. There was all kinds of contact on Admiral as he went in for a lay-up at the start of overtime, no call. How can you win a close game when clear fouls aren't being called? Same exact scenario occurred at Rupp last weekend. Not being an excuse maker but UT needs to put the dagger in and twist it. Simply don't let teams hang around where a little run puts them right back in it. That's how UT needs to learn to play and teammates need to tell Turner to quit taking the critical shot at crunch time.

LSU was just tougher than the Vols today. Evenso, if LT doesn't lose his mind at the end of the game, the Vols either win in OT or they are still playing in the second OT. Take the ball to the basket in the open court with 8 seconds left and then don't foul a guy 75 ft from the basket with less than 1 second left. LT must not have known what the score was to do something that stupid.
You read my mind. Reading some of these post and I’m wondering what they are talking about. THAT was our chance to win on the road against a good team. That one play hurt to much to overcome. And when did Volnation become a chorus of “the refs beat us”? It’s after every game now and it’s a plain bad look. I agree the officiating struggled some today but LSU length and quickness beat us today. Not the officials....

We lost on the road in overtime to a great team. Yes, we probably lost any chance of winning the SEC championship outright with the loss today, but there's still a lot of ball left to be played, and the SEC tournament. We could still get a one seed. Even if we don't get a 1 seed, anything can happen in the tournament. If we get a favorable draw, we could go really far.
They were missing their best or second best player....Reed, who is either their best or second best player, had a horrific day shooting the ball, only scored one point....we had a 9 point lead late in the second half....we had only 10 assists vs 14 turnovers.

I’m not exactly sure what’s happened to this team, but today’s loss was a really bad one and this team is not in any way playing like it did earlier in their year when it was unselfish, efficient and the epitome of “team”. There’s surely time to turn it around, figure it out again and make some noise in the SEC and NCAA tournaments....but right now, it sure looks like it’d be stretch for all that to happen.

He missed two technical free throws (looking back how much did that hurt). He was 1-7 3's today and was 0-7 3's against Kentucky, took a crucial shot at the end of the game today that he shouldn't have taken and shorted it and played matador defense against Javonte Smart in crunch time and I wish he would transfer to a place like UT-Chattanooga where he belongs.

I'm probably imagining it but his shoot looks different to me than earlier in the year. Probably just because they aren't going in. lol.

LT is a good player, but he and Bowden both seem to play better off the bench.

Naw you're right, LT is pushing the ball and his shot is a lot flatter and has less back spin than earlier in the year. I think he's rushing instead of going through his natural release. Maybe let Pons start and bring him off the bench and see if that helps him get into the flow of the game better. Hardly a coaches opinion just my laymans observations.

frustrating...we were out-officiated, out-mugged, out-played, and out-coached...Coach Wade is my new frontrunner for SEC COY...he was working the refs from the tip to the end of the game...poor Grant had the worst game I've seen him play...but, but, there's still a lot to play for...probably gotta win out to get a no. 1 seed now...and, as always...

GO VOLS!

I don’t think you can start Pons. Pons is going to have to be a spot minutes player right now. Teams are not guarding Pons at all. LSU put Reid on Pons and Reid just stayed in the lane he didn’t go out to guard Pons at all. I think we are best with Bowden, Turner, and Pons coming off the bench. The only person that leaves is Johnson. Johnson can score from the three and mid-range, so he would have to be respected and he likely won’t give up more points than Turner does,

You really don't think it is a bad loss when you basically control your destiny to at least share the SEC regular season championship and you lose to a team that doesn't have its best player available to play? Up by 9 in the 2nd half?

Under the criteria of “bad loss,” it is not. It would have been nice to get a road win against a ranked opponent and to take advantage of Waters being out. But it’s not a bad loss.
