Absolutely Horrible Game Management with 1:24 Left

This is always a lame response. There is no guarantee with any hire. You take a chance at getting a better coach or you don’t. You can’t tell the future.

Ga had a heupel some years ago. His name was richt. He’d win you 8-10 a year but could never when the big ones when it mattered. Sound familiar? They took a chance. Does Kirby ring a bell?
There are over 70 teams with coaches hired in the last 5 years. You can't fire your way to championships. Heupel and termination shouldn't even be in the same sentence. We field a competitive team every week. Football is back to a point that we expect to win. The reason for that is this staff. You are probably a member of the group that ran Fulmer off. Heupel is young enough to coach here another 20 years. I hope he is successful enough to do that and while I agree time management was bad. We won the game and that's the bottom line.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Boo burned several valuable seconds running around going nowhere on the punt return. He should have either fair caught or gotten what he could and gone down.

I think you’re right. We kind of tried to have it both ways and ended up wasting some time. Needed about 5 more seconds to take a shot on 3rd down.
22 seconds left and 2 TOs you better get at least 3 good plays off. Joey trying to make a play kinda took more clock and we screwed up by not calling a TO after the 3rd and 1. I was sitting there saying “get the first down and timeout”. Better learn from it. Frankly, it happens. I feel like Smart screwed up the last 2 minutes last night as well. Not nearly as bad though his did result in an L.
It’s understandable we let the clock run on 2nd and 10. If we had picked up yardage we woulda gone quick but an incomplete pass on 2nd and 10 puts us 3rd and long, one dimensional and good chance of punting back to them with all their timeouts with 1:25 left. It’s not about being scared. It’s thinking my D is toast and we cant put them back out there in regulation.
The time management screwup was last 30 seconds imo.

UGA is literally a missed FG from being 3-2 and ranked 22nd. People are really going to struggle with caveman coach killer mentality while this new reality has NIL killing depth and a 9 game SEC schedule making it where good teams lose a couple of games like the NFL.

Completely agree. There is no bad SEC team right now (except Kentucky). We are also playing with our second team corners which I think made us hesitant to load up against the run

Kirby also made some bad decisions. Went for it on 4th instead of tying the game. Then took one of his timeouts a few seconds before the 2 minute warning. Coaches make mistakes. I imagine some delusional Georgia fans are calling for him to be fired. Some fans are just nuts. GBO

Excellent post.

It’s always easy to judge a play call after one sees the result. Coaches don’t have that luxury when they make the call.

What is more valuable, saving your time outs or making a team burn a down - especially when that down is used and the opponent only uses 2-3 seconds before the 2:00 minute mark? That seems like a double win.

Actually think Kirby should have used all his timeouts before 2 minute warning. Would have been 3rd down with 2 left. Didn’t matter with a great playcall but he definitely made a mistake by hurrying up on 4th and 1. Just like us on 3rd and 1’s, hurrying up led to 2 penalties for us and a bad play all for them. With the rb weapons you have, you choose that rb to go wide?

Giving me lots of credit for running fulmer off. You one of those guys that thinks Heup rushes home to read this board and is now job hunting if we are critical of him?

If you really thought fans opinions didn't matter, you wouldn't give it. I'm saying you were probably a part of the noise.
You’re delusional if you think you do. We give opinions everyday on things we know we can’t change. Politics, football, nearly anything in life. I hope this doesn’t make you feel any less, but neither me or you have ever got a coach hired.

If we can consistently be around 10 wins over 2 decades, we will win an SECCG

The ignorance is assuming you can predict the future.

Have you never watched a NC Ohio State, Bama, or Georgia team struggle with inferior competition and barely win a game late? The idea that this is evidence that we need a new coach or that we will never be able to win an SECCG with CJH is truly ignorant because it makes it seem as if you’ve never seen any team other than UT play.
It’s not an occasional thing. Every year with consistency Heupel produces a road team that’s ready to play uninspired, unprepared, undisciplined football. As of recent his game management has also been terrible.

I wouldn’t let it get you so worked up Mrs H. Your husband honestly is a good coach. He’s just not a next level coach.

I believe that the collective you and collective I does make a difference. That's my delusion.

An unnspired team doesn't win in OT in a close game. Players have to execute the plays. This all started with the Staley mistake on the kick off first play.

I'm so glad you don't run the athletic department

There are a number of posters on this board who played or coached sports at a high level who disagree with your opinion. Some who did neither but know better as well. It's not because they have lower standards than you. It's simply because they are more informed on the matter than you. You sound more like an entitled fan than anything
Ahhh yes Bernard I can always count on you to tell me how my opinions are lesser than other opinions. Let me tell you about my opinions as related to the last 5 years. They are more informed and hold more truth than your opinions. You just don’t like them and that’s fine.

We haven’t came close to a SEC title, so let’s not even talk about a championship. So until coach becomes next level, and I hope he does but I don’t think it’s in him, my opinions lie closer to the facts than yours. So it really just sounds like you are very much entitled when it comes to your and your “high level coaching” buddies opinions but ignoring facts.

We sacked them 5 times on D, I wouldn’t say they dominated. Joey had much more time to throw overall than there quarterback did. They did run the ball better overall but in crunch time we stopped them and we ran the ball better. Look at the stats, we weren’t dominated. GBO

One of the big positives for us: the pass rush overall was fantastic. They didn’t pump the brakes on that with a few exceptions.

He just now has his first class he recruited from start to finish and best blue chip ratio and average recruit rating in decades but you want to fire him after a game we won and if a kid makes a FG, first win vs Ga in a decade. I don’t want to hire anyone else. Let him see where this goes or you could be cheering for a 5-7 maybe 6-6 team again. You are the LAME one.
First, I never said fire him. I’ve simply said I don’t think he’s next level for us. This opinion proves to be correct until he proves it wrong.

Second, Heup was the problem against Ga. Not a 20 year old kicking a 47 yd FG. He also made some terrible decisions/management last night. He continually gives us an unprepared, uninspired team on the road.

The thing about end game clock management is that there is a mathematically correct course of action—it’s not just a matter of opinion. So many college coaches botch it cause they can’t get past their “gut”. They are trying to make tough decisions on the spot that should have been decided well in advance.

We could literally hire some board game nerd as the clock management executive and get better results 99% of football coaches

Making the playoffs sounds closer to conference titles than where most other schools are. I guess I would need you to explain what close to a conference title means.
