Absolutely embarrassing performance

Why do some of us refuse to blame the coaching staff? This game was a lot on the players and the coaches. Substitutions created bad match ups. Poor Middleton couldn't cover her butt with both hands. Our coaches have not shown the ability to make in game changes when things start to go South. When players start showing lack of effort and start standing around, the coaches seem to lack the ability to create a change in attitude. The animals seem to be running the zoo, while the zoo keeper seems to be clueless. In most cases it just seems like a lack of buyin in whatever the coaches are trying to get done. At best this is an inconsistent mess.
I have blamed the coaches a lot this year, but I don't think this one was on them.

I beg to differ. She saw her team was having problems with the press in the 2nd quarter, and didn't do anything to fix that during halftime and beyond.

Holly is like the commercial where a cop in uniform announces to the customers in the lobby of a bank that a robbery is in progress....then says, he is only a moniter hired to recognize the situation, but not to do anything about it! She probably tells her team that they're turning the ball over too much. but just doesn't know how to fix it1 No clue!

I think for the benefit of my blood pressure and mental well being that I should call this season done and done. I can't watch such ineptitude, both by the players and by the coaching staff without being at risk of stroking out.

I only blame HW because of the short bench. Our bench is worthless. Not her fault Te is out but her fault we did not have the numbers to allow for the unexpected which is the norm for all UT athletics it seems.

Players play and should not have to be prodded and poked to play hard all the time. CRB has the least talented team in the SEC but I would argue none other than maybe SC play harder.

I will say again I dislike HW but not physically on her tonight.

We are now officially the laughing stock of the SEC!

I am done with this team and the horrible coaching staff. I just cannot stay on this roller coaster! I have loved the lady Vols for years and have followed them faithfully but it is over!

I do not even know what I saw tonight! No excuses for them anymore!!

...and had one of our worst regular seasons EVER. Maybe our worst. Warlick is a bad coach--not sharp at all, and just not someone who knows how to lead people. Anyone who hasn't recognized this by now is pretty thick indeed...

I normally don't comment, but today mostly was the players that lost this game. They were like a deer in headlights, completely erratic! Only thing I blame Holly on (which I support Holly as the coach for now) is that she put Middleton in the game for way too long. Alexa is just too darn slow to keep up with most of those girls on Auburn. It really pissed me off every time I seen her in the game, cause i knew the player she was guarding would just blow by her. All the players played scared and that's just that! I don't care what you say, a coach can tell you what to do to break a press but at the end of the day it's a players game. They haven't played any team that presses that hard and aggressive and face it the players freaked out and committed TO after TO. I'm not about to sit here and completely blame Holly and the staff for this loss. Sorry won't do it. Also you all have to keep in mind if Holly was to be fired or leave there goes the #1 recruiting class. That's something I don't want to lose

The coaching is so bad that we can always blame them. The players aren't always perfect but their mistakes and shortcomings will always be overshadowed by the coaching mediocrity. There is no way to ignore the fact that all our players do well in high School and USA basketball but then turn into nincompoops in games like today. Good coaching can bring out the best in players while bad coaching brings out the worst.

That's just not true. They have already signed a LOI. If they want leave after Holly gets fired, they have to sit out a year or go to JC. It's possible, UT could decide to give them a release, but why would they.

The 1st 8 minutes of this game they played as well as they can and looked terrific .Then Holly made three substitutions and including Middleton whose man promptly dribbled around her for an easy layup and it was all down hill for Auburn after that.

I am really interested in what the Holly supporters (no matter what) analysis of what happened in this game coaching wise was and if they believe that Holly did a good ,average ,fair, bad ,or just plain horrible .

Players ,it looked to me like they just gave up the ghost about 4 minutes into the 3rd qtr. They were not defending, rebounding, shooting or passing worth a flip and looked like they just did not care. Why do you folks think that happened ?

I am not a Holly supporter but I will give my take on the game and the team. The LVs looked bad because they were uninspired about this game as opposed to the home game with ND. Think of the "We Back Pat" theme and the former LV stars that were present at the game. Consistent stellar play in basketball or any sport requires players that are motivated by firm, determined and wise coaching that demands excellence from the players in every game. Holly's coaching does not meet this requirement. Therefore, there is no player motivation for the LVs when there is no unusual exterior motivation as with the ND game.

I would just as soon lose them than see them here under Holly Warlick and be ruined for the rest of their career. They have signed their LOI so I believe all would honor that. Surely they can see Holly is not much of a coach. I think they're coming here because it's Tennessee Lady Vols.
Out of curiosity, I would like to see a match up of Holly Warlick and Geno with these teams. And I would bet that Geno could beat this team by 50 - 60 points if he kept the foot on the gas.
Pay Kim Mulkey and get her here.

If Cooper was available, she would have sliced and diced Auburn's press with her ball handling skills coupled with her speed......we lack elite guard play! Simple.

Of course Geno or Kim would do a lot better with our players than the current staff......

It always amazes me when people put the blame on the players..... I learned in business or sports the ultimate blame goes straight to top management, or coaching, for they have the power to change things and control things..... even things the players do which may not seem is onus of coaching staff, like shot selection, foul shooting, turnovers, missing bunnies, etc.... it all is the responsibility of the coaching staff..... if players are not up to snuff, work work work in practice.... i have never been to a Vols practice but i would bet that HCW is settling for far less than Pat ever settled for..... If Diamond has too many turnovers, sit her down!!!! Does not matter if she is dynamic player or not.... what is the price to be paid for errors in judgment, lack of effort, sloppy play, too many turnovers....??? There is no price to be paid.... Players will always consider this program like a summer camp until coaches demand more from the players..... I was looking again tonight at the highlights from Ole Miss game... I have never seen so much standing around..... Tonight watching Freutag (sp?) drive past Russell and others to the hoop was shameful defense.... at least 2 times we are stuck with the ball in our hands as the 30 second clock expires.... these are not good indicators of a well run basketball team.... I hope it changes... don't think it will but i always hope

First off, Middleton was terribly overmatched in this game.

But the LVs hot start was fool's gold. Auburn was sleep walking defensively -- we are not the only team to have slow starts. Once they got into their aggressive pressing defense, the LVs collapsed because they just could not match up against that pressure.

It really did not matter who Holly had the court once Auburn locked in.

I am not so sure that Te'a would have sliced and diced the Auburn press but she would definitely helped the LVs cope more effectively.

Jordan lacked the quickness; Middleton was just a disaster; and Diamond when she tried to take control (in the 2nd and 3rd quarters) just made bad decisions under the pressure but, in fairness, she is not a PG.

The LVs need a plan B because other teams will see that pressure is how you can completely disrupt this team.

I know some of you are ok with mediocrity...and have some emotional connection with Holly becuz of her association with Pat...and no matter how bad the LV's are..heck they could go winless in the SEC and you'd still be all "Go Holly and Go Lady Vols"....but i'd say it doesn't do anybody any good to take a once proud program and have it go down the crapper when it doesn't need to. it's obvious this team has the talent to win. You don't beat a 6th ND team with no talent. So we've established they are indeed good enough to beat almost anybody. Then why are they 11-7 and 2-3 in the SEC? And blowing a 17 point lead and losing by 18. That's a 35 point turn around. My gawd...think about that.

Drop the BS....It's COACHING. It's not fair to the girls who play here or who are thinking about coming here to have their college careers put in the hands of this kind of ineptitude. It's not right. It's actually irresponsible on the part of the University to keep her.

I don't blame coaching and I am not thick either. We just don't have the talent on the bench at this point. We don't match up well with many of the guards we have played. We can hold our own in the post when the defense honors the outside but when we substitute, we drop off dramatically and I think that is the story of the game. Once we drop off and the other team starts exploiting our substitutes, we play under pressure to catch back up and this team does not always do that very well.

Disappointing loss....yes. Unexpected....no. The coaches cannot fix what they don't have the tools to fix. The easy way out for some fans is to blame the coaches each time the LV's play a close game or lose in a stinker. In their frustration, they turn on other fans who don't agree with them. Frustration should not cloud your critical thinking ability if you have it. Most if not all the board experts have never coached a competitive college level game in their life because if they had, they would realize that this coaching staff is handcuffed to a large extent.
