Absolute crap that we won't be playing y'all yearly now.

It’s no surprise the OP wants to keep our annual game. How often are you guaranteed that your opponent, no matter how good they are, no matter how bad you are will have a complete mental breakdown and play like a middle school team against you for just this one game. An added bonus is that your second and third string QBs become Heisman candidates overnight.
Lagway is buying his Lambo early, as is customary for his first round draft status after they play us.

Hard not to feel bad for Florida now. The only reason they are being taken out of yearly games with the Vols is that they are about to suck for a decade or more, where we would have dominated them every year. So naturally the new schedule is set up to screw us by taking a weak team off the schedule...

Changes will be coming every year. This current system cannot be maintained. We are evolving toward all the teams spending over 10 million on NIL will eventually migrate to one conference. They will form into divisions just like the NFL, play no one outside the conference and form their own playoff system.

I hate UF. The timing isn't great since UF is still struggling while the Vols are getting their act together.

That said, I am more interested in winning championships than any of the other concerns. Do that... then add UF back. Playing Vandy and UK will help UT win championships. I'm old enough to remember when a legend at Bama retired leading to several years of mediocrity. I'd honestly be OK with that too for a while.

Keep building the roster. Hopefully the schedule will help rather than hurt like it has so many times in the past.

Maybe. Or they could enhance revenue sharing. They could even subsidize teams with low NIL support. None are things I want to see. But it will change over time.

I don't care about LSU, and I really don't care about Texas. Would it be nice to beat them, sure! - but it doesn't have the intensity of the Florida game, and my point is that Kentucky brings no passion to the table. They suck. I'm sorry but I don't care that we've played 102 years or whatever.

My point is why keep pushing a game that isn't exciting for us. For years, we heard about how great we were in the month of November. The reason was that we always played Vandy and Kentucky in November and we could count on a few more wins. Even Vanderbilt went through a period where we lost 5 our 7 games to them in the last 15 years. From 2011-19 we were 5-5 against Vandy. Let that sink in: Vandy has been a tougher opponent this century than Kentucky, who we have like a 22-3 record against over the last 25 years.
What you’re missing is, the way you feel about Kentucky, a lot of Florida fans think about UT. I hate Florida as much as anyone, but we haven’t made it much of a series, especially after 2001. In the last 20 years, we have beaten Florida the same amount of times KY has beaten us. We’re still going to play them pretty often, but cycles change. As much as I don’t like Florida, it’s not nearly as big of a game as it was with Spurrier and Meyer being there. We barely played them before 92.

If Florida wanted to keep the TN rivalry, they should have kept Ron Zook and stop talking about fire Napier. Nobody wants to tune in to 16 year win streaks.

To this day I still hate Florida more than Bama. When I was growing up we would win over Bama a few times and even went on a winning steak against them but we couldn't do the same against Florida. Not to mention Spurrier's cocky attitude.
However, we have played Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky for over 100 years and we are the SEC team Vanderbilt and Kentucky would rather beat than any other team. Neyland was hired with the mandate to beat Vanderbilt And they are undefeated after 4 games this year and hog stomped a top 15 South Carolina team this year. They were ranked higher than we were until Vandy ran them off the field.

The Supreme Court caused this problem and I don’t see them changing their ru together anytime soon. The NCAA has lost their power and the Courts will never let them have it back. I think the NCAA is a terrible organization and hope they never regain the power they once had.I do believe the problem will be solver within the next 2-3 years and some sanity will be established.

I was hoping our 3 permanents would be Bama, Florida, and CanTurkey. I simply don't care one way or another about the nerds in Nashville. I was a rivalry back when the horseless carriage was still a thing.

I have a former coworker who is a kentucky fan who literally texts me "Go dawgs!" or "Roll Tide!" or whatever the catchphrase is for the opponent when we lose. I even got an o-h-i-o last year. Its infuriating that his team is such dog water that he just hangs on to whatever team beats us.
Yeah, they had to give us Kentucky, it is their one game of the year they get jazzed up about .. and we did have a beer barrell tradition, used to be a big blood drive competition between the schools.. we have tradition and they would have raised cain had it not happened 😂

This does suck.

Truth is we got two historical cupcakes and Bama. Boo hoo 100 vs Kentucky, but for once I’m almost in agreement with D4H.

Bama is obvious for being a big deal since the league formed.. Vandy because it is instate.

We’ve lost historical rivalries before such as Ole Miss and Auburn, but I’ve never met a Tennessee fan who is fired up for Kentucky hate week the way we do Florida or Bama.

Nobody really cares about Kentucky. This ain’t basketball. They don’t put in the effort or resources to consistently field a competitive program.

We already have one program with a ceiling of 9 wins at the very best. Now we have 2 of them.
Agree with you about Ky. Also feel that way about Vandy. Wish both were kicked out of conference. neither add anything to the conference in football.

I am going to miss playing the Gators every season. You guys beat us more often than the other way around. But there's always excitement during Tennessee-Florida week and during the game. Even though it'd hurt to lose to you guys, it always means so much when we defeated you guys. And that's even though I hate the Florida Gators, I do also respect them overall as a team. And even though they're down right now, they'll back up someday and possibly real soon. I remember how rough it was for us Vols when we fell to the bottom and was there for all these years and now it's great that we are rising back up and are now relevant again.

If the conference wasn't so inflated with so many teams, we could preserve the current rivalries and gain new ones. The season would have to be almost a month longer and give up an open date. Maybe two weeks earlier start (mid August). It would almost have to eliminate out of conference games.

I can see the SEC always preserving one very traditional rivalry - like for UT it would be Bama (although we would have to compete with Auburn), Florida it would be Georgia, etc.
Then the other two 'annual' opponents be rotated every 4 yrs to get some of those rivalries that exist but not as historic, like UT / Florida.
In the 90"s Florida kept us out of so much. We could of had SEC titles and national titles.
