OK last year we got turnovers. I know we lost some guys but. I think we have only one interception this year. And not very many fumble recoveries. Think we got most against Montanna, Buffalo and those. I do not remember a turnover against the gators, Georgia or LSU. Is it because of youth or Wilcox scheme. We can not get a turn over and get off the field.

I think it's because our young players haven't developed the insticts required to force turnovers and our older players are just not athletic enough to make anything happen.

I think it's because we aren't good enough to not play conservative on the edge. We also don't trust each other it seems.

We did fore a fumble against Florida. Been pretty bad at causing turnovers this season though.

Lets talk about tackling ! If you try to tackle the ball and cause a fumble , lots of time this prevents a player from wrapping up on the ball carrier. You cannot tackle the ball and the player at the same time. I had much rather see a defensive player wrap up on the ball carrier than see him trying to grab the ball and cause a fumble. For the most part, I have seen much better tackling than in years past. There is still much room for improvement.

Better tackling this year? I beg to differ. Chavis had his issues with 3rd down, but at least he teaches his guys to wrap up. We still have guys that tackle my leaving their feet, leading with their shoulder, and trying to bump a guy to the ground. End result is that the runner just bounces off and keeps running. I think its poor coaching imo

Don't understand how people don't get this. Even my 9 yr old has learned this from NCAA footbal on XBox. It has a setting that causes your players to go for the strip first, but it warns you that you will miss more tackles in the process. It has also taught him not to blitz if you don't have a great secondary, because you will get burnt.
We have young players in many cases and lack quality in others. In either case, we have absolutely, positively NO quality depth on this team. We just can't afford to gamble yet.
And "fade," his last line said there is still much room for improvement. I have seen flashes of improvement, but in the heat of the game, these young guys forget. It takes time to pound this into them. There is a reason they have drills for this all the way to the pros.

I don't know when people will realize it isn't the scheme and it's the players. Guys, Tennessee's DB's just aren't that good... nor is the secondary. When you have a baseball player playing safety what does that tell you??

Reason we are not getting turnovers is because our DB's cant cover very well yet. If our corners could cover then we could put more heat on the QB's forcing them to throw it into tighter spaces than they want. Right now they have been able to pretty much throw where they want to. It is killing us this year not having Janzen in the secondary. Last year teams had to respect him and mostly throw away from him.

WI has a baseball player playing QB hows that working for them?

I will agree that we are not very good in the secondary this year. We have no one that is a lockdown corner. You have to have atleast one guy thats a lockdown corner to force the other team to throw it away from that side. Right now teams can throw wherever they want and we cant stop them.

DBs tend to play in the secondary...

Yeah i hate that type of defense. You do not see LSU,Alabama playing that crap.

Me too. Unfortunately, it may be our best option right now.

On the brigth side.. our defense played great agaist LSU before their depth took over and we held UGA to the fewest points they've scored all year.

You and I have completely different memories of Chavis. Chavis is a great DC when he has the talent. Otherwise, when he has to start from the bottom and instruct on fundamentals... he is lacking.
