What would happen to players who sign early if the head coach of the school they signed with quit, retired, or was fired?

Nothing. They sign with a school, not a coach.

That is my guess. But don't see how it would be wrong.

Rules are not there to benefit players.

Once they sign, they are locked in until released. That is why most coaches will be fired before the early signing period begins. If it seems more difficult for programs who change coaches like they are changing their socks, it is suppose to be. Hire the right guy, treat him right, and don't have years where recruiting suffers. Something to be said for stability, and it's a wonder any of us can still spell that word.

This has been happening in basketball for years. Players sign in the fall, and their coaches sometimes get fired or hired away to bigger jobs in the spring. The school then almost always allows the players to be released from their LOIs if they choose. Still a month until NSD. That's enough time if the players want to be released

Nothing, they're stuck. But it's still a big advantage for the players. Especially the lower rated guys who a new coach make not want. It ensures they have a scholarship

They turn their focus to academics and achieving a much sought after college degree.

Just kidding.

Plus, if the coach is fired, they do not have to sit out a year.

On the same theme how important is the Under Armour All Star game now that 80% of the players have already chosen their school?

Once they sign the LOI they are locked in. Which is why you don't sign unless you are absolutely certain that's where you want to go.

Some of these players act like they had no idea any coach can leave any school at any time for any reason!
