Aaron Medley's overtime field goal to win against SC assures fans we have a kicker who can make the big play when the pressure is on in a must win situation. He needs the recognition along with Dobbs, Hurd, Barnett, and all the other stars on the team.

I'll give the kid credit. The point after, to tie and the winning FG were probably the 2 toughest of his life.

He did miss two... but if i could choose which one of three he makes it's definitely the last one

Wilhoit is his kicking instructor. I heard an interview with James a few weeks back on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville and he said Medley is going to be a great one.

Anyone know if Butch gave him the ole "don't **** it up" pep talk our previous coach used to deliver?

The two he missed were very difficult in the first place given the swirling wind from those distances. I don't really hold either one of those against him. You're right, the extra point was huge considering the snap was high and timing was off a little because of it. The overtime kick was money.

Medley has impressed me. His misses in the USCe are to be expected, the winds were crazy.

Agreed - futhermore, the second missed kick shouldn't have even been attempted due to the harsh wind conditions - should have gone for the fourth down conversion...

The first miss wasn't too far off.

He drilled that OT kick though.

I don't know how many of you were there, but trying to figure out where the wind was coming from was crazy. At any given time to flags on t of the stadium, in the stadium and on the goal posts were all going in different directions. I don't know how anybody made anything.

I was there, it was awful. The cold would've been bearable if you weren't trying to keep from being blown in all 4 directions.

Some of us remember it too well even from home because they were focused on the goal post flags flipping all around as we lined up for that ill fated second kick.

Medley is a jewel.

The pressure of that OT kick was tremendous, but he kicked it through as if he had no pressure.

As for the two misses, the wind was too much for us to even be trying them.

He will go down as one of our best kickers, and we have had some very good ones.

Glad he is a Vol!

there were times when the flags on the goal posts were flying in opposing directions??? it's like the laws of physics didn't apply at the jumbo tron end of the field.

Great thread! I was starting to wonder if our heroic kicker had been forgotten.

I don't doubt Medley's ability and mental stability one bit. That was a very clutch kick in OT, and he deserves the credit. It was not a game-winning kick though. It put us ahead at a crucial time. A game winning kick ends the game after it's made, right? I think those kicks put an extra element of pressure on the kicker.

For a true freshman to shake off two misses and hit one in overtime is something big, that's the most mental roller coaster position there is in my book. Hats off to him and glad he's so young, little weights and more experience and he could be an absolute weapon!

Lots of folks complain that we can't kick it into the endzone for touchbacks... What they don't realize if you compile all the kickoffs this season I am willing to bet that the oppositions averages starting position is less than the 25 yard line BECAUSE we have Medley kick it HIGH and have the speed and tackling ability to get down and make the tackles before they reach the 25. I noticed this several times in the SC game.
