Aaron Douglas Officially Gone

Good grief, where do you get your ideas??
JoPa has been 11 and 2 in 2009 and 2008.

So by your reasoning I would have loved to see Fulmer v2.0. And I think he could have done it just like paterno.

According to Penn State fans I've talked to, Paterno is more just a figurehead while his coordinators are doing the coaching. I remember seeing at least one game during the past two years where Joe Pa was just watching the game from the pressbox. Fulmer's ego would never have allowed him to give that much control away. He was too paranoid that what happenned between him and Majors would happen again, with him on the losing end.

While I appreciate what Fulmer did for the program in the '90's, you're dreaming if you think he could have gotten us back to the top. It wasn't going to happen. In hindsight, LK was a very bad hire, if only because he never wanted to be here. He saw us as a stepping stone instead of a destination. But it was time for Fulmer to go.

Back to the Douglas story, why would you not leave the door open for your best OL to rejoin the team, once he gets his personal life in order?

I think Dooley made a bad decision here. This team needs Douglas, and this was his first "disciplinary" problem that I remember.

It doesn't sound like Douglas had any interest in having the door left open. It sounds alot like he just wants to get out of K'ville regardless... and has for awhile based on what his dad said.

It really appears that to me that his parents talked him into UT and sold him on Fulmer. CPF was fired leaving a bad taste in the kid's mouth. Kiffin's departure left him totally disillusioned. On top of that, he apparently has had personal and romantic "issues".

I don't think Dooley had alot to do with his decision nor do I think he ever gave Dooley a chance.

What are his issues?

2 more years in Knoxville and he could leave and go pro. That's not a long time, I think he would have eventually realized that.

What are his issues?

Supposedly... he has a substance abuse problem that may date all the way back to HS. It was also reported that he beat up a car after getting angry with a girl. He apparently didn't like the way Fulmer was handled then pretty much popped a cork when Kiffin left... from an emotional standpoint.

Whatever those "issues" were... they were enough to convince his diehard Vol parents to relent and let him go elsewhere.

I don't think I said that it sounded like a rational decision... just that there's no evidence that it had much to do with Dooley. It really doesn't sound like he even allowed Dooley to counsel with him on it.

The reports read together sound like he basically kept UT at arms length while he made his decision.

Where is the link that said DD booted him? I thought AD asked to be released but soemtimes it's hard to decipher fact from fiction on this board.

If only he would have realized that nothing is more important than football and being rich!

No worries guys. We'll be back contending in the SEC Championship within the next 10 - 15 years. I can personally gaurantee it.
