Watching so many lower seeds beat the higher seeds (even a team who finished 6th in their conference) it got me thinking about the talk concerning expanding the number of teams in the football playoffs. Very few could argue that UCLA has the most talent during their incredible run. But the other side of that, notice there was only 24 - 32 teams in the tournament. If they had to go through a 64-68 team field, who doesn't think they would have been upset a few times. This is my concern with expanding the football field. It may start with 8 but rest assured it will go to 16 at the first chance. Upsets are exciting, except when it is your team getting knocked out because of turnovers, weather, or some other reason. At the end of the season there is only one fan base happy. That is one reason I love conference championships, and most fans have forgotten how great that is. Now fans have one ending they want, and it is NC or nothing. Conference Champs should be the preseason goal. Everything else is gravy.
