A win is a win but I want to be brutally honest

Wasn't watching to see if Brazzell was double teamed or not, but one catch for 5 yards for best receiver on the field won't cut it next week. Great to see us FINALLY using TE as a weapon though, and getting Matthews engaged.

Kitselman still drops catchable passes.

I think these stats are more alarming than on the surface.

Staley pretty much had all of his yards by halftime.

Star only caught one pass?

Brazzell shutdown the entire game by Arkansas's defense?

We play a crazy fast offense. This forces our defense to be on the field more plays. I see an opportunistic defense that gambles. I think the finger pointing at our defensive coaching staff is ridiculous. They didn't forget how to coach after last year. We could use more quality depth/experience. In today's football, less teams can horde depth.
We gave up 100 yards rushing in the first quarter. That has nothing to do with us playing fast.

Our defense has created a lot of turnovers. Arkansas played well. Green is uniquely elusive, and their running back seems like a stud. We're playing with our 1 and 2nd string corners hurt. Defense won the game the 2nd half. I thought Heupel pulled screwed up not being more aggressive with the drive with 6 mins left. Got to be more creative on 3rd down and got to go for it imo on 4th. We end up punting there and they are back where they would have been in like one play and 20 seconds. You get a first down there, and it's almost game over.
Playing the scatback Star when up 10 in the 4th instead of Power runner Peyton Lewis was a boner. Lewis off left Tackle would have gotten some first downs and slammed the door. You saw what happened in the last drive when Tenn had to have it. 3rd & 2, Lewis got 7. I do NOT understand these coaches. Offense or defense.

We got the Arkansas team that played Ole Miss game, not the one that played ND. Arkansas is actually a very talented offense that occasionally stumbles 😊.

But if you think Banks is problem then you have to include Inge and Garner as part of that problem and I'm not ready to go there.

Ark will be a problem for a few teams down the stretch…even this week potential. Think TaM visits Ark.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in those defensive staff meetings to see what REALLY goes on. Who is actually in charge.........

You are right that we got gashed in the first half. It was almost like something changed in the second half. Did we have new players or did our coaches change something? Our defensive coaches are not ignorant. Arkansas has players and coaches trying to compete also.

it’s not even close to Sunseri era bro. not even close
I didn't say it was exactly the same but it reminds me of it. This defense has the same hallmarks, can't stop the run, can't stop the pass, can't get off the field on 3rd down and it both bends and breaks. Every SEC team we have played has been able to produce multiple 6 to 8 minute drives for scores. If they want to meet their season goals they need another strategy.

We can be great 1st and 2nd down. It can be 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 22. And we are going to give up the first. Lets drop 15yds in coverage n let them cactch it. Great plan

Rushing defense is going to cost us one or two more games that we could win if they could stop the run, but they haven’t stopped the run in the last three SEC games so I don’t see that changing dramatically.

It already cost us the GA game. Agree that it will likely cost us a few more. And maybe a TV or two in my house, as well.

Does this explain why our defense is not good on the first few drives of the game.

We are definitely underperforming, but had not been healthy up to this point. And as far as today's game goes I think the Arkansas offense posed alot of problems. I'm not sure there is a more dynamic QB in all of college football than Taylen Green. Couple him with an effective rushing attack that was gashing us and it was alot to handle.

I still think we have ways of getting better. The staff is slowly moving away from Tealander at LB. I know he is well liked as a leader but he is too slow. I thought Perlotte looked good when he had opportunities and Spillman has good speed as well. It would be great if we ever got McCoy back at CB. Safety does hurt though. Losing Jacoby Thomas was a big loss and it sucks we let him walk. Would also be nice if Boo would get it together. He looks disengaged at times.
I find it equally troubling that Heupel and HIS offense struggled against one if the worst defenses in the country who was being coached by a group of analysts. No points after two huge turnovers is unacceptable. At times there appeared to be no rhyme or rhythm to the play-calling - it’s almost Heupel is if Heupel is just haphazardly calling plays - 2 of 9 third conversions.

Heupel had several opportunities to put Arky away but failed to capitalize.

This is basically what i’ve been seeing all year from both Farooq and Turrentine. Not saying it’s easy but they are horrid in run support and not much better in pass coverage

We have some studs on the D-line, which makes it really disturbing how bad we have been overall on defense. We might have the worst safety tandem in the SEC with Turrentine and Farooq honestly. We lost Jakobe Thomas to the portal and didn’t replace him with anyone? I’m just not sure how anyone can watch our defense and not think Tim Banks should be fired. Once again i’m glad we won but it’s getting really tiring of the holes being wide open in our defense and getting gashed in the run game/ not containing the QB. From week 1 until now our defense has not only looked bad, but i would argue they are getting worse each week. Go Vols

Who coaches safeties and aligns the defense? Tim Banks. The best unit on the team is the dline and it has nothing to do with Banks. They perform well in spite of him not because of him. We are screwed if and when Garner retires and Banks is still at Tennessee.

I'll never understand the "Oh we a 5-1 we are fine" crowd... Who have we actually beat that is decent? What good is 5-1 when we haven't learned from our mistakes and keep failing to produce better results on the defensive side of the ball. 3rd down was an automatic conversion last night, no matter the distance they needed.

We will get manhandled this week by players that are equal to or better talent. Sunshine pumpers can enjoy 5-1 and beating up on SEC jv squads. It's big boy football time now, will the coaches have the prepared and ready to go?

You probably shouldn't watch this week. It sounds like you are already upset that we have a game.

I posted it in another thread but McCoy and Gibson are out. Jakobe Thomas, medical redshirt, Jourdan Thomas poached off our roster by Miami and is having a big year with them. That is FOUR starters, or major contributors in our defensive backfield gone! That HAS an impact on our defensive production!
