Ok guys, I have now spent about 8 months living in Birmingham and this is what I have come up with for a great weekend in Bham.

Nightlife:

Lakeview area is probably the best as far as taking a cab or driving and having a lot of food and bar options within walking distance. Here are my favorites.

1. Start out the night at the On Tap Sports Café in Lakeview. This is a great spot to watch the games, order wings and have some cold beer. There are a lot of TVs here and it is very sport friendly.

2. For an under 30 crowd, Innisfree Irish Pub is a can’t miss. Beautiful ladies will be all over the bar and a band will be playing your favorite covers. This is located right across the street from On Tap and the Lakeview Oyster House. Expect to pay a $5 cover.

INNISFREE Schedule

3. Another great option for the 25 – 40 crowd will be the rare martini. Slightly more upscale and located only two doors down from Innisfree on the corner. The men and women will be more dressed to impress. They usually have a band upstairs with a dance floor packed. With three bars to choose from, getting a drink is not usually a problem. Expect to pay $7 cover charge.

The Rare Martini

4. Oasis is more of a local spot with great music. This place is further down the street from The rare martini and is usually filled with people of all ages. It can be tought to get a drink here but remember there is a cash bar upstairs when the line downstairs gets too long. You can expect to pay a $5 cover.

5. A final option in the Lakeview district is the Barking Kudu. This is a very open bar with a large patio scene. They usually have a band playing in the back and can get a very mixed crowd. This bar is located behind the Lakeview Oyster house and right down the street from the Rare Martini.

6. Oh and almost forgot if you want to Dance and drink until the sun comes up, then you can do this at Nana Funks located directly next door to Innisfree. They serve until 6:00 am. Very similar set up to the infamous Bell Bottoms.

5 Points Area – another spot that you can eat and walk around from bar to bar.

1. Twist and Shout is a dueling piano bar that can get fairly crowded rather quickly. Fun atmosphere filled with a mixed age clientele. Probably not uncommon to run into a bachelorette party at this spot. It is also located right next to Bell Bottoms so you don’t have far to go to the all night drinking club.
Located at:
2011 Highland Ave S
Birmingham, AL 35205

2. Blue Monkey is a great trendy and urban bar with a big city feel. It is one of the more difficult bars to locate so make sure to get directions before heading out. The ladies love the martinis but I show up for the atmosphere.

Blue Monkey Lounge

3. Bell Bottoms is always a good call or a bad call depending on what your looking for. Thursday night is Jello Wrestling night which is worth it if only for the one time experience. You can drink in this place all night long as well and not surprisingly you will probably witness a fight. You will have to buy a temporary membership card which is basically like a cover charge.

4. Dave’s located across from Bell Bottoms is more of a laid back scene filled with graduate UAB students and after work happy hours. Not a bad place to grab a beer and waste some time.

That should get everyone started. Hope to see you Friday morning and Go VOLS!!

Why is the place with beautiful ladies only good for the under 30 crowd? Can't some of us pervy old geezers participate as well?
