It is not often used as a pejorative. That’s a canard. Your post reflects the self-conscious attitude of the very sub-group you identify. Yankees and scholastic cocooned liberals disparage differently. Educated southerners pay them no mind. PhDs of the Southeastern coastal region will pronounce “wash” as warsh and marsh with an “air R” as if making merry mischief with Bostonians. Y’all ain’t got reason to get your gander up. Now, offer this gentle person a cold refreshment before you earn a “bless your heart.”

Nolen --- I wonder how much his high school coach, or other "advisors" influenced this decision ( I still think money talked). As to him coming back - if he plays up to his expectations, no, the money will keep him there. Your Mays' example, for me, is not too good, as I never thought he "played to his expectation" at Ga. As we say around here "he was just another duck on the big pond". Coming to Tenn. made him a pretty big duck on this pond. (when he is able to play).

Have a great time as well savannahfan. It would be great to meet up next season although we are about to go into another lockdown so I will be lucky to leave my house at the moment

Can I ask what the source of the negativity is? The need to try to cause friction where there doesn't need to be?

He asked the source of the phrase and I gave it. You seemed to feel the need to take opportunity to use that to diagnose a stranger's self confidence and education level. I linked a source that basically verbatim supported my response, indicating that my response wasn't based in the areas you seemed to think.

He asked. I answered.

Where are you coming from beyond that? I have no issue with you, nor the phrase. Hope this clears things up and you have a good evening.

I liked BUT disliked hearing from you. We, in my corner of mid/west Tn. are seeing an uptick in cases also. I have lost two friends to this scourge in the last few months. Hope this has not befallen you. I'm getting to old to lose friends this way. My friends and I are passing away often enough naturally as is.

Sorry to hear that savannahfan. So far managed to dodge it but the numbers have doubled in a week to 1,100 in a 100,000 and everybody I speak has recently has had it or knows somebody. Thank you China

Funny story... that quote is often misattributed to Albert Einstein but there is no proof of him ever saying it and the earliest strong match to such a statement was in an article in a Knoxville newspaper in 1981 talking about a 12 step program.
