What will it take to unite our fan base?

I look at teams that have made strides toward championship level football, and it appears everyone is pulling in the same direction including the fans. Why is our fan base so fickle?

I see so many post about we suck, our coaches suck, players suck etc...why? Because a new coaching staff, and a new system didn’t win its first game? I am not sure about the rest of you, but I feel that is totally unrealistic. We were a bad team last year and that can’t be undone in 20 practices. Learning to win is a skill, and it has to be taught. It is learned in games.

What will it take this season for you to fully support this team and staff? They have my support because they “ Give their all for Tennessee”. Am I happy we lost? Absolutely not, but I am also aware that knee jerk reactions do not help achieve a goals.

Maybe I am just too much of an optimist, but I saw plenty of things to look forward to.

Even if we'd just won the SEC championship, this fan base would not be united.

We are an argumentative, stubborn, easy-to-take-offense bunch of people. It's the Volunteer state, and that means we run toward the fight. We are eager to join in, to mix it up.

It's who we are. Soldiers are not saints. They're mean, relentless, ornery cusses who'd just as soon fight you as drink with you.

I don't revel in it, but with almost four years on these boards, I've come to see the truth of our collective personality.

We're Volunteers. We will never have a united fan base. It's just who we are.

In my opinion there will never be a united Tennessee fan base anymore for football. I think it will be forever fractured no matter how the team does. The only Tennessee sport where the fans seem united now if Men's Basketball.

This fanbase has never been united, as far back as I can remember. Johnny Majors called them the legions of the Miserables. On here they're referred to as negavol.
Yeah a Negavol painted 'Fire Johnny Majors" on the side of a building in Knoxville n 1981 when Tennessee opened the season losing 44-0 to Georgia and 41-7 to USC.

I am confused why "uniting" is always code for Pollyanna positive allegiance. Why can't we all unite in negativity towards an athletic department that is incompetent at best?
We are United fans of the same team with different opinions. That's normal. And healthy, imo.

Last yr I posted the win loss record of every team in the SEC for the last 10 yrs. We were in the bottom 3.

Losing and suckage will NEVER unite a passionate fanbase of a historical top 10 winningest program. Now it has and does unite vandy fans.

If we fans on this awesome message board can destroy our program, it wasn't really much of a program to begin with.
Ppl that still believe that still has that wool over their eyes 🤦‍♂️. Shame on the fans for every bad hire and cruiting no talent the past 10 + yrs lol.

In the plyoff era no fanbase will be united unless its team is a perennial contender for one of those four magical spots. And that's perfectly ok.

How about everyone being pretty middle of the road in expectations and stop doing all the same things we've done in years past?

Pruitt needs time. If we gave Dooley and Jones 2-3 years, Pruitt gets that. Also know going in that we probably weren't going to be good this year, so consider 6-6 a success.

On the flip side, how about not being overly cocky before games? Stop acting all offended when people picked WV over us, stop with the "No respect" whining; respect is earned and we haven't earned any in a good while.

And for the love of God stop trotting out the cliches that we heard under Kiffin, Dooley and Jones. Stop saying we "have a real coach"; we don't know if we have a "real" head coach yet. And stop telling us how Saban went 6-6 his first year. That cliche should have been retired with Jones.
