A triple down the Memphis line

Who do y’all think is the best vol to come out of the Memphis area?

If you include metro area (Tipton County), Johnnie Jones (Munford) would be up there. For as good of a program as Covington (another Tipton County school) has had over the past 20-25 years, they've only sent a couple players to play SEC ball...

I am not saying we are not alike in the ways you point out. We are just different. Like Easterners and Westerners and Midders across this great country ( just like east, west, and mid Tennesseans) I like you, love being in Tennessee, and feel at home anywhere in the state. But we are different and I love it. The business I spent my younger life in gave me the opportunity to study these differences. I delighted in them!! (by the way,I really am in middle Tennessee look me up.
Tennessee has intra-state differences, but they pale in comparison to a ton of other states (California, Virginia, Illinois, New York, Florida, etc.). Eastern and Western Tennessee are not more different than NYC and Upstate New York, for example.

As they say, Bristol is closer to Canada than to Memphis...

It's a geographical oddity.

What was the great linbacker from Jackson Tenn..........Al Wilson ??? Doesn't sound right but close ...........Trey Smith from Jackson Tenn. Several good Vol football players from West Tenn...............lots more if they would be recruited. However, everybody thinks all the good football is played in the East Tenn area..............WRONG ! Greg Emerson who plays now is from Jackson Tn.

i don’t keep up with Chattanooga area high school football but looks like there should be good players coming out of that area as well.. do we have any recruits from that area? I know Chattanooga is no where near the size of Memphis but I would think they should have some good players

I don't know anybody who thinks good football is played in East Tennessee.

Very rare to see a big time recruit from Chattanooga. Chattanooga is not a hotbed of football talent. Biggest one I remember in recent times was Gerald Riggs...there was also the great Reggie White.

O ok I was wondering just seems like Chattanooga being a bigger city would produce more talent seems like they don’t have many basketball recruits either from that area

There is a kid out of McCallie, Jay Hardy, that is a 4-star we are in the hunt for. At least as long as I've been alive, Chattanooga does churn out talent and yes, you think there'd be a little bit more. I haven't done any research to this effect but per capita I think the talent churn-out is fairly low. There is a 4-star here and there, rarely a 5.

For example, in 247's top 50 recruits from Tennessee, only 2 are from the Chattanooga area.

You’re correct. Al Wilson was born in Jackson and attended Jackson (TN) Central-Merry High School. Al Wilson - Wikipedia

To all Vol fans in the Knoxville area........Memphis is from the extreme western part of the State of Tenn all the way to the extreme eastern part of the state. It takes me literally all day to get from Reelfoot Lake (Lake County Tenn) to Knoxville. This is why all the players from West Tenn go to Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas, Alabama, Miss State..............they are all closer to West Tenn than is Knoxville !!!! ............For example, I can be in the States of Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, and nearly Alabama within 45min. to an hour from my home at Reelfoot Lake. I am literally 30 mins. from Kentucky. Missouri, as a crow flies, right across the Mississippi River about 30 mins to cross the river. So........yall have an idea why we lose players to other schools. I can be in Starkville Miss much quicker than I can be in Knoxville Tenn. Ole Miss and Miss State are in Memphis Tenn backyard. As a matter of fact one would never know when he leaves Memphis Tenn and enters Southaven Miss. or Memphis Tenn and enters West Memphis Arkansas , which is literally across a bridge.

Breaking news...

Such a shame he played for Ohio State...........I think I am right. I was so in hopes Von Bell would play for Tenn.
Vonn Bell wasn't a Vol because Dooley didn't recruit him. Just that simple. I remember an article in the Times Free Press about him right before signing day. He publicly had narrowed it down to Ohio St, Alabama, and Tennessee. Butch had just taken over and was recruiting him hard. They asked him what he thought about the previous staff, and he said he hadn't communicated with any of them.

That kid really, really wanted to come to Tennessee, but Dooley + staff didn't show a lick of interest in him.

Unfortunately there's a long list of kids in that same situation across several of our coaches. Kind of makes me sick to think about some of them.

LBer out of GA. Not happening there from what I’ve heard. I think Carolina probably gets him.

It will be interesting to see what Omari Thomas does coming out of this weekend. That would be a huge commitment and we have to feel good about our chances there.
A highly touted running back i think he moved to dyersburg
