Regardless of the number of new faces or the system a team runs, if players “buy in” to what a coach is trying to do they can achieve amazing things. For whatever reason, Coach Caldwell lost last year’s team. So cleaning house was probably in order. Every transfer to TN this coming season wants to succeed and win. It’s up to Coach Caldwell to take hold of that positive energy, channel it in the right direction and maintain it for the entire season. If she does that, things will work out for her and the LV’s.

There is a Plan B. She ain't telling and have her opponents and some semi-fans able to prepare for it. Assuming is a dangerous position. See what takes place and then pound the pom pom...Go Lady Vols!
The phrase that keeps coming up "no Plan B" is the talking point of some on here trolls and unhappy with past HC departures crowds. That are crossing their fingers and hoping for an epic fail for lady Vols IMO.

I suppose that , by now , everyone has reached some conclusion as to why last year turned out the way it did. I don't claim any special wisdom on that. But when every player on a team decides to cut and run, it becomes obvious that CALDWELL and the players did not mesh as one team. It was telling that OLIVIA EDWARDS left and GABBY MINUS stayed. In that single truth, is a rather profound TRUTH . CALDWELL had a special connection to MINUS she did not have with EDWARDS. I think that is meaningful. Relationships are very important things and it is these relationships between coaches and players which will eventually determine a team's success or failure. That is why CALDWELL'S decision to revise the way she recruits players is going to have a profound impact on this years team. I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that these players will never "QUIT"regardless of what happens this season. Not because of who was recruited, but because of who they are. These players exist in CALDWELL'S image. And just as she will not "QUIT" , neither will they.

The FIT of this group, both physically and mentally will be on display for all to see. HOPING that lessons learned from last season accurately tailored her short lists AND she yielded a good mix to fit her schemes…..ONLY time will tell. Fit can be more important important for some schemes than others.

One question still puzzles me: If Kim Caldwell leaves in the foreseeable future due to either failure or success (or personal reasons), how will that affect the program given that the players will have been immersed in a non-traditional system for their entire time at Tennessee? If the system has been successful, will the new coach be expected to maintain it? If not, will it take the players a while to revert to a more traditional style?

No different than Kim taking over after Kellie.

If the system is successful, KCK will be here for the next 20 years. If it is not successful, the new coach is probably replacing 90% of the roster on day 1.

Seems that the players having to learn KC's system is the issue. Very low probability a new coach would run her system and reverting back to 'std' BB systems would be easy since players come up playing that.

Whoa!! We are getting in Messiah complex territory. "These players exist in Caldwell's image"??????

From the KNS report "Minus chose the Lady Vols over Baylor, Florida, Clemson and Georgia. She was ranked No. 44 in the class by ESPN until its latest rankings, which dropped her to No. 62 after she suffered a lower leg injury"

"Special relations aside," It is also a reality of recruiting that the #2 or #3 recruit in the country (depending on the ranking service) probably has more options and market demand than the 62nd ranked recruit.

Also, Edwards and Minus were in the same recruiting class so it seems a little odd that the head coach would form a "special relationship" with her #42/62 ranked recruit but not invest relationship building effort in her most elite recruit ever. If that is the profound "truth" in play, that is not quite the flex about CKC that you think it is.

You know, I also travel around with a power point slide presentation that I show to kids which proves that Santa Claus and the tooth fairy are fictional entities that their parents use as form of social control.

And I, faint palimpsest of your good self, attempt to intimidate RNs, MDs, and mobs of certified therapeutic practitioners so they might finally release me back into the wild. They are hemming and hawing about tomorrow, maybe.

The hummingbirds on the Japanese quince miss me, and I them.

Wow, my Memphis City School education failed me on this one. Had to look up the word palimpsest. Still confused about the hummingbirds on the Japanese quince sentence. Think I'll stick to sports.

I am stuck in hospital while Spring bursts on the Maine coast, with loads of neat iridescent green hummingbirds on the quince bushes. Anxious to get out and enjoy nature.

FWIW:
If CKC was able to have a conversation with Edwards before she announced she was decommitting (or whatever the correct term is)... we do know what CKC said to her. Because we know what she told every other player she talked to after the end of the season.

I'm much more comfortable with a coach & program where the mindset demands are as stringent as the talent level demands. It seems very Pat-like.

If CKC is successful, it will also give the Lady Vols an identity again, rather than just being a historic brand.

Only a certain type of player--or person--will be able to wear that Lady Vol jersey. And if you're that kind of player, Tennessee becomes a destination program for reasons of substance, not image. Recruiting the best players who fit our team simplifies as more players self-select. And young players who aspire to play at Tennessee will already know the mindset they need to develop.
