A Terrible look for Heupel and Vols [Roc Taylor]

Coach and guidance counselors dropped the ball on this one. Easier to deflect and kick start the fire before the academics come into play.

I just heard High-Pull on Sirius and he sounded like a very good coach who cares about his players. I don't care if this one incident is dinging his rep because it will be forgotten soon enough. Let this BS go away please. We're the only ones keeping the legs under it.

I'm not seeing us get torched.

Maybe you're reading and listening in the wrong places, brother.

Yes we are getting torched. Check SDS website. I just read the article, hopped in the truck, and listened to atlanta radio crapping all over it.

There's your problem. Atlanta radio. Heck, go ahead and drive over to Tuscaloosa to listen in there for a while. Heh.

I just listened to 104.5 in Nashville this morning, and this isn't even a story any more. Ramon Foster torched the high school coach yesterday, and they've been past it ever since.

If you'll get out of our enemies' back yards, I think you'll find the same.

And outside the SEC footprint...heh, in the rest of the world, no one ever even heard of this story. It's not a big deal.

It's just not.

EDIT: some proof:

It's just not a big deal, except to our rivals who want to make some hay out of it. You should move. :)

Considering he signed with Memphis and his final teams list was:
Arkansas
Alabama A&M
Alcorn State
Tennessee
Memphis

I'm not too worried about losing this kid. He'll go to Memphis and play great ball.

Unfortunately though the vast majority of croots we need reside in SEC country.

*nod* You're right about that. But something like the soldier's paradox works for recruits.

Ever wonder why a soldier who has been through battle after battle continues to slog on to the next? Why he doesn't give up and run away, desert?

Part of it is loyalty...duty...selflessness. But part of it is the soldier's paradox.

Most soldiers start their careers with some degree of eagerness to see battle. I mean, you train for something week after week, month after month, year after year until you're REALLY good at it, and you kind of want to finally get out there and test yourself. You want to take your turn. Soldiers don't talk about that a lot, but it's generally true of most of them. There's a readiness. An eagerness.

And you never think you're going to be the one in your squad to get seriously injured or killed. It has been called "the immortality of youth," but it's not really about how old or young you are. It's just a sense of the odds being in your favor. It's not gonna be me. And I'm going to see to it that it's none of my buddies, either. We'll make it okay.

Then, after you've been bloodied for the first time, once you've "seen the elephant," the calculus kind of starts to change. See, the guys who learn BEST how brutal and unforgiving battle can be, they're the ones who died, or got shipped home with injuries. The ones who keep going, they mostly came through the battle okay. Horrified by what they saw, perhaps, but still ticking, limbs intact, no bad wounds.

And a reinforced sense of destiny. Of the survivor. Of being suited to succeed in this world.

I could keep going, but that's enough to cover how it applies to football recruits coming out of high school.

They're like the soldiers in training. They have a (perhaps naive) confidence that things will be okay for them. That somehow it will work out. That guy over there who lost his commitment? He just wasn't a lucky one. That won't happen to me.

And so these stories, sometimes trumped up as they are in this case, about a coaching staff who didn't give that recruit the consideration he deserved, well, that doesn't really affect ME. I'm not going to get stuck like that. I'll survive, I can make it through, I'll be okay.

And they mostly are okay. Having to pull back offers, that doesn't happen often at all. Most who get offers, and then commit, they sign. So the lads are generally right; they'll be okay.

TLDR: we'll be fine. Recruits who will consider coming to play for Tennessee, they're still going to consider it, even after our rivals try to make a big deal out of this one fella being turned down in the 11th hour.

It's a non-event, in the grander scheme. And the soldiers continue to march forward.

It’s reported that Roc has signed with Memphis.

Congratulations to him, he’s upgraded to the best football program in Tennessee.

He is going to Memphis? If academics were an issue, he should be fine at Tiger High....probably be an honor student there.

Already shooting our own feet on the recruiting trail. It may make sense to people who follow college football closely but to everybody else, this was an unforced error. Don't beat yourself has been around longer than Rockne. Meanwhile Heupel only been here long enough for a cup of cofee and he's being seen as beating himself.. It takes roughly a hundred attaboys to overcome one aww xxxT.

Brother, here's your complimentary paper bag. Just put the open end over your mouth and nose, and breathe deeply in and out. You'll be fine in no time.

This isn't an issue. It's a blip. It's an anomaly that happens occasionally in college sports, particularly when coaching staff change out, and most particularly when they do it shortly before a commitment or signing deadline.

This is the lint in the far bottom corner of your jacket pocket. It's a dandelion seed on the wind. It's a non-event.

We only mouth-breathe over it here because, well, we spend hours a day talking about a sport that isn't even in session. We need something to spool up over.

Not an issue.

p.s. It certainly doesn't hurt that this young man is from Alabama. Screw Alabama. If he were a Tullahoma or Oak Ridge or Jackson, TN, lad, we might care more.

Wow didnt know that part. But hey if he were to have dumped us because of the coaching change things would be ok, right? LOL! People need to stop treating these kids like this! They need to know about consequences and have setbacks. These things make a better person.
Kids flip all the time. Its a two way street.

People just want to complain about Heupel.

It's old....

Yeah? Go cheer for them then.

Kid grew into a small TE.
Goodluck at never going to be the best program in the state.

Why are you even on here?

Yeah I do not spend a lot of time on here due to my job. However when I do come here to catch up on things all I see is Complaining and Whining about everything. If people are that so against CJH then leave. I highly doubt there is anything on here that could change anything about the coach or the coaches he hires. Let it ride and see what happens. I really believe he has been gifted some great athletes as well as benefitting from a VERY favorable schedule next year. Im gonna go with them being 7-5/8-6 next year. A couple of those games can go either way (Ole MIss, Pitt) with maybe a surprise win coming vs. Kentucky. Florida, Georgia and Bama will easily be the biggest challenges for the New staff. But hey! Thats why you play the game! Anything can happen on any given...Saturday.
