A Terrible look for Heupel and Vols [Roc Taylor]

Our head coach should have delivered the news and not delegated an unpleasant job to an underling. CJH is going to go through some tough times. This is a bad look for the Vols and I do not wat UT to use the excuse that other schools do it. I want us to be better than the others. I have heard that CJH is a very principled person. Talk is cheap. Actions speak volumes. We should have given Roc every possible chance. The head coach at TN has to look at the ramifications of every public action and consider the results.

I agree. The HC should have called the Coach at the very least, and the player too.

Wrong, we had already told him back in November that we could not sign him due to his academics, and according to (Probably Tee) the previous staff they advised both the coach and the player that he had to make serious progress if he was going to be eligible. The former Pruitt assistant told Brian Rice of WNML that no academic progress was made - at all. The HS coach is FOS.

The kid signed with Memphis. I wonder how much he knows about Pruitt and the money. Also his high school coach says he will qualify to play college ball.

He is your new OC. He was hired last week just didn't make it official. My nephew Brandon told me Golesh hasn't returned not one call to his offensive players at UCF he just up and left. He is a prick. lol
Is he allowed to talk to former players at this point? I would imagine he was told not to do so by UT considering what’s going on with the investigation.

That’s not really the point, and I don’t know if that’s true. CJH should have called the coach as a professional courtesy.
It's been reported by several sites by guys like Hubbs, Callahan etc that he was told back in December to look elsewhere because he wouldn't qualify for Tennessee. I understand what you're saying about JH but I don't think that would have changed the narrative they're trying to push. That kids handler is a grade A piece of sh!t and is bad news for anyone involved

There are a lot of coaches you do that for...and then there are a few that you don't.

This fella seems like maybe he's made it into the category of the few that you don't.

Obviously there are schools out there that have fantastic football programs, but maybe the academic side historically causes an issue.

However, in this instance, CJH is inheriting a kid that had an offer. He is in charge. A call from the HC of Tennessee might have been nothing more than damage control but it should have been made.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Oh, you meant call the player? I think it would've been nice for Josh (or Tee, if Tee was one of the kid's primary recruiters) to give a personal call to the lad, yes. Classy.

But the coach? Pffft. Some fellas you don't even bother with.

So if you meant the coach, then yeah, we can just agree to disagree :)

Who cares! Kid wasn't gonna qualify from what I'm hearing. This is a different staff anyway. Maybe they dnt wanna put up with that.

I thought it was interesting Roc didn’t sign in the early signing period. That tells me Pruitt likely wouldn’t let him. Obviously there are reports about his eligibility. Not sure if Pruitt would have actually signed him with transfer possibilities available. Heupel may have just finalized what would have happened.

And...he's just NOT that good haha.
He gained too much bad weight, and he wasn't particularly fast to begin with...
Wow didnt know that part. But hey if he were to have dumped us because of the coaching change things would be ok, right? LOL! People need to stop treating these kids like this! They need to know about consequences and have setbacks. These things make a better person.

Really bad look.

For those of you saying “it can go both ways” you’re wrong. Just wrong.

School offers scholly, kid commits, coaches accept, kid shuts down recruitment. Makes financial decisions knowing college is paid for. Tells his family and community “I made it! Got a ride to get my education!” Makes friends on group chats with his future teammates, dreams about running through the T into Neyland on gameday. Feels confident and loyal for sticking with the Vols through all the turmoil.

School pulls offer at 11th hour....

Other schools that previously offered might be full or took others at the position - classes sewn up. Kid struggles to find a vacancy anywhere, much less a P5 program. Remember - P5 scholarship offers are very coveted and hard to earn. Has to tell friends/family/community he’s no longer good enough. Maybe has to settle for JUCO or Division II.

Switch it, kid decommits or flips last second...

Coaches hop on database of literally thousands of high school athletes, and the transfer portal. Fill the position pretty easily or maybe over the summer. Worst case an extra counter for 2022 or give the walk on kicker a scholly. School has others in the position on the roster already so really NBD.

You look me in the eye and try to tell me it’s all fair game.
Who said it was supposed to be "fair"?

Crybaby weaklings are usually the ones crying and whining about "fair"

As in anything, you can always do better. I think the kid was told multiple times he did not have an scholarship. Both staffs stopped communication with him. The kid was visiting & looking for other offers. I think the staff saw that thought there might be a misunderstanding so they called to make sure he did not embarass himself. I think the coach / handler used the reaching out to make UT look bad.

Yes, we can do better. Also think it is a 2 way street. No matter how you handle your side the other side may decide to take it a different way.

Not much, he was a 3* TE. And just because he will qualify to play college ball does not mean he met the qualifications to get accepted into Tennessee, Harvard, UCLA etc.

Homeboy Jeremy Pruitt didn’t allow Taylor to sign in Dec. for the same reason. POS coach and media didn’t mention that. Hell, Heupel ain’t gonna make his career recruiting Alabama anyway unless Bama and Auburn both go on probation. That’s about the last time Tennessee got anything but scraps and slugs outta there.
What about Kamara?

Sheesh Low , Hubbs etc all the Volquest been saying before NSD 1 that wasn’t goin to ever be a part of this class. Player and coach has known for months he couldn’t qualify academically, was obviously out of shape etc. His HC is sticking up for the young man and more power to him. If we weren’t the media whipping boy right now that coach keeps his mouth shut. You think is Saban does exact same thing he is complaining??? Silence
