A sobering stat

Currently ranked 109th in total offense.....40th last year, 52nd in 2015.

Actually cutting Jones some slack by not mentioning where his offenses ranked in 2013 and 2015, his first and second years here.

So, it's a good bit more than 20-30 spots lower compared to his 3rd and 4th seasons here which is a more fair comparison imo.

Maybe I was glancing at the wrong stats. I looked at a stats website the other day that had our total offense around 80-90 all years Jones has been here except last year where we were 42 I believe.

Anyways, my bad!

No worries. Offense is bad either way

Thanks for the in-depth look at our stats. You've just put in more effort than CBJ has developing our players. I do have one question. Our pass defense seems out of place? Are we that good? Or since everybody just runs it down our throats there's no need to pass on us?

Yes the latter....Ga Tech doesn't throw much....UMass....Indiana State helped in those numbers as well. UGA just ran it down our throats.

He ran for about 20% of his total yards.......those numbers including his ypc include his lost sack yards.

HS stats don't always tell the whole story. These kids go to camps, and workouts, and are evaluated further than just what they have done at their school. Heck he only threw for 1400 yards his senior year and 1000 yards his JR year.......so if you just use that as your only measure he prob would not be recruited as a QB by anyone.

Through JG's evaluations he was thought of as a top level pro style QB, and an elite level DT/QB......hopefully those people are right, and maybe time will tell.

Josh Dobbs ran for 48 fewer yards in his JR and SR years than JG...........and he sure looked like a good DT/QB to me (not saying JG is Dobbs, just showing the rushing numbers in high school don't mean anything).

There have been plenty of players hyped just on camps and busted. You are what your stats say .if you have the IT factor and you have 107 carries and your YPC is under 4 . I hate to tell you but that is a telling stat . I was concerned when I seen him play the UNder Armor game but hoped it was a fluke . he looked about like he did against Umass. Hope he balls out but I will be beyond surprised if he finishes the game.

I don't have a clue what kind of player he is going to be. I was just trying to show that his HS stats didn't mean he was not or could not be a DT/QB. The "people who know" thought he would be the best or at least one of the best DT's for that year............they are wrong a lot, but it was not his HS stats that gave them that idea (just like Dobbs HS stats didn't make it look like he could be).

I hope he can be a good QB. Right now no one knows.

We didn't lead too many minutes last year in regulation. I remember figuring it up.

Appy State we tied up at end of regulation
VTech we took the lead in the 2nd Q and never let up
Florida we didn't lead until the 4th
Georgia we didn't lead till the 4th, then gave it up, then won it on a hail mary
aTm we never led in regulation
Alabama we never led
USC we never led
UK and Mizzu we led quite a bit back and forth
Vandy back and forth until the 4th

So we had a lead a portion of 16 of 40 quarters last year against FBS schools. Not too good. And if you look at it based on minutes and not quarters, its far worse. 189 minutes lead out of 660 minutes played against FBS or 28%. Not a very good number for Jones' best team.

Butch's teams are supposed to be good off the bye week.

Except when: coming off a scoreless beatdown against a hated rival at home, suspending a starter for fighting, and swapping QB's with virtually no on field evidence supporting it.

The only on field evidence you need to try a diff QB, is that scoreless beatdown...
