Not so fast!

Vanderbilt is right there with us in almost every category,slightly better at defense, slightly worse at offense. Passing offense 88th at 200.3, we are 91st at 195.8. Vandy is 61st in defense we are 62nd. Vandy has 14 sacks we have 12.

Difference is strenth of opponents so far...

Vandy has played Kansas State, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. While our only tough games have been Gatech, Florida and Georgia.

So for our stats to be nearly exact jn every category really speaks well of Vanderbilt considering who theyve played.

That's NOT team 121.
Despite the RIDICULOUS attrition of Butchs recruiting classes. Our roster is still littered with high school All-Americans. At every level of offense and defense

These kids valuble development time is being absolutely wasted.

Butch is that guy that buys the nice car, but then never gets regular maintenance for it....

Sobering fact JG is not a dual threat QB whoever rated him like that got some explaining too do.
HS Freshman year runs= 5 for 17 yards 3.4 yards per carry
HS Sophomore year runs= 42 for 56 yards 1.4 yards per carry
HS Junior year runs= 107 for 258 yards 2.4 yards per carry
HS Senior year runs= 83 for 206 yards 2.5 yards per carry
UT RS Freshman runs 10 for 6 yards 0.6 yars per carry
Totals is average carry for life HS/College = 2.06 yards per carry
How is this the top DT QB in the Nation
As John Madden says you are what your stats say you are and I don't see a dual threat

Currently ranked 109th in total offense.....40th last year, 52nd in 2015.

Actually cutting Jones some slack by not mentioning where his offenses ranked in 2013 and 2015, his first and second years here.

So, it's a good bit more than 20-30 spots lower compared to his 3rd and 4th seasons here which is a more fair comparison imo.

Thanks for the in-depth look at our stats. You've just put in more effort than CBJ has developing our players. I do have one question. Our pass defense seems out of place? Are we that good? Or since everybody just runs it down our throats there's no need to pass on us?

Dang. Well so much for dual threat. I'd heard ppl mention his from high school didnt support the dual threat theory. But these stats shocked the piss out of me. I mean i assumed the ppl saying that were agenda driven or even that he didnt rush that often but had the ability. I assumed a high YPC, cuz i mean, its high school. If you are the #1 dual threat you MUST have that ability.

He does not. Factor in the few times hes took off for the vols with those abysmal high school numbers, and i feel like i been sold a bill of goods, and lost the receipt.

As far as sacks figured in, they are in college, and a true dual threat overcomes that. I mean good mobile qb should take less sacks anyway. Btw, hes been much worse than dormady at avoiding sacks.

He ran for about 20% of his total yards.......those numbers including his ypc include his lost sack yards.

HS stats don't always tell the whole story. These kids go to camps, and workouts, and are evaluated further than just what they have done at their school. Heck he only threw for 1400 yards his senior year and 1000 yards his JR year.......so if you just use that as your only measure he prob would not be recruited as a QB by anyone.

Through JG's evaluations he was thought of as a top level pro style QB, and an elite level DT/QB......hopefully those people are right, and maybe time will tell.

Josh Dobbs ran for 48 fewer yards in his JR and SR years than JG...........and he sure looked like a good DT/QB to me (not saying JG is Dobbs, just showing the rushing numbers in high school don't mean anything).
