Why Tennessee should win:
1. Overall talent - Tennessee does (and should always have) better talent on the field than a team like Arkansas. Getting good players to come to Fayettnam has to be one of the hardest jobs in football.
2. First year head coach - Arkansas has a coach who's never been a HC before and he's in his first year. Now, from everything I've ever read on VolNation, a first year head coach should not be expected to win because it take 3-5 years to do that
3. Lack of home field advantage - Arkansas isn't a tough place to win in the best of times, but with the virus limiting fan access, the crowd wont play a factor
4. Arkansas is weak against the run and Tennessee loves to run (even when they shouldn't)

Why Arkansas should win:
1. Tennessee has JG at QB and Arkansas has Franks - Arkansas should be overmatched in every other aspect of the game except for the most important position on the football field. JGs ability to single handedly destroy a game is maybe unparalleled in the history of college football.
2. Tennessee apparently has no backup QB options worth a darn. Pruitt consistently forces the idea that JG is the best chance. Not a good chance, but just the best chance. Apparently no QB development has happened for Shrout in 3 years or Maurer in 2 year.

So you might think Tennessee can overcome this? I think they should. But I think Tennessee loses this game 27 to 17 due largely to what will be an ineffective offense dumbed down to suit a guy who's not mentally in the game and backup QBs who are inexplicably not ready to be, well, backups.

We will not be able to keep our defense off the field. They will get gassed and Franks will pick us apart.

Your Intention: Another Cover For JG Post!

I’m not covering for JG by any means, I just think repeatedly bashing him is equivalent to arguing with police over the speed limit. You’re attacking the wrong person.

He’s not playing well, but the coaches want him to play. He can’t exactly go “No coach, I don’t want to start Saturday.”

Yep! This sums it up quite well.

To be fair I did not bash JG. I simply pointed out that since Pruitt decided that JG will be the starter, we will most likely be in a position to lose the game.

Ya missed the part where they have a far better pass defense (#1 in SEC so far) while we are 11th in conference.

Their pass defense wont matter much when we rush the ball 75 times and don't throw it more than 5 yards down field because Chaney has pulled the reigns tight on JG.

Again, thats just a fact. The point is that Pruitt knows this and still willfully throws him out there because apparently none of the other QBs are good enough to beat him out as our "best chance to win"

No I get it, I’m not even saying you’re wrong. But you definitely bashed JG. I’m not blasting you for it either, we’re all frustrated, but this is on the coaches, not him.

Like for Fayettnam. My new favorite.

While I believe what you said is correct, I think we can boil it down to this:

On Arkansas' side we will see a well-coached game led by an old school football guy who has developed leadership skills.

On our side, we will see a poorly-coached dysfunctional mess led by an old school football guy who hasn't.

QB play, penalties, turnovers, getting plays in on time, having people line up correctly, a game plan that covers their team's weaknesses and focuses on their strengths, the pursuit of excellence... These are the true 20/20 maxims. Where the games are decided.

But the Hogs won't be expecting us to throw a 30 yard go route into triple coverage on 3rd and 2.......we will catch them off guard.

The only part of that that will catch them off guard is the fact that it's a go route. They would expect us to throw it laterally all the way across the field behind the line of scrimmage. After the quarterback lines up side straddle facing that direction and looking over there the whole time of course.

its definitely on the coaches for letting him go out there and simultaneously not having another QB ready to step up and take his place.

None of this changes the fact that JG will be the single biggest deciding factor in what I predict will be a Tennessee loss (regardless of who we blame for it)

You would think. But they continue to surprise me.

I think back fondly of that time we ran the ball 13 out of 14 plays on a touchdown drive against Kentucky this year. We drove the ball straight down the field and punched it in and they couldn't stop us.

And then we never...did it...again...

If we lose Saturday ( and I think we will ) this will b a 3-7 season and Pruitt will have suffered a mortal wound. This really has been like Ground Hog day since Kiffin left. Every 3-4 years we hire some loser ( who never again works as a head coach) . He comes aboard full of piss and vinegar and makes vague promises that the Vols will be in the SEC CG before his tenure is over. He gets the team to third place in the SEC east while losing to Bama, Fla and Georgia by 20 points a game; the fan base becomes even more restless and angry and turns on him. He loses big to some pathetic team, gets fired and we start over AGAIN. Knoxville has become a coaches' graveyard. We are becoming more like Ky than Ky. It is a real downer. Basketball shows that getting the right coach makes a complete difference . Why, why, why cant we find the right man for FB?

I think the majority ARE bashing the coaches who can't see the difference between game performance and perceived practice effort ...

Pruitt does not know how to be a chief executive officer type where he just lets Chaney and Ansley call whatever they think is best on Saturdays while he just strolls the sidelines and discusses issues with the officials.
