Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage.
-- Bart Starr

I think every Vol fan including myself need to stick to this. We can hate our coach as must as possible, we can blame and accuse as much as we want, but we should never tarnish the Tennessee legacy, and we should stand behind our University, our Program, and our players as we would in years past! I'm inspired how about everyone else?

Bart Starr didn't play for Fulmer.

So are you trying to say by criticizing our play we are detrimental to our Vols? I just can't buy that!

If you tell a child they are smart and never correct or call them when they are wrong you have failed that child. The same thing applies to this team if we don't address the problems we have failed it, period!

Unfortunatly, it's not our problems to address.

I'd rather be a cowardly fan of a championship team than a courageous supporter of failure.

I'm not saying don't criticize them. I'm saying you should still stand behind them in times of need. Using you example, If you do correct that child, and correct him you need to be there to support him when he feels down on himself for making a mistake. A kid (or the Tennessee Football Program as of right now) needs harsh punishment for being wrong, or not trying their best, but also need encouragement to get them by. That is all I am trying to say.

I think as alums and even hardcore fans, we have the right to voice our opinions

I've been a Dolphins fan since '70, I think that says where I stand in support of my team especially the last few seasons.

Try being a Braves fan in the 80's...and now for that matter

Talking about the flaws of the program does not make someone Benedict Arnold.

Someone leaving the game early, someone who stops watching the game on tv early, or someone who boo's our team are the ones who have issues.

Simply talking about how bad a certain aspect of the program is, is just criticism.

Without criticism or question, then you have blind faith in an aspect of life that need not be followed without question. If we fumble two times at the GL, why should we not complain or question?

What are we the Cubs now?

How about these gems from one of Starr's former coaches?

"Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing." ~ Vince Lombardi

"Some of us will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will be judged by only one thing-the result." ~ Vince Lombardi

He sure knew what he was talking about.

BTW their fans didn't cry and boo and call for the coaches head the year the Packers started off with a loss to the college all-stars.

I'd rather be a cowardly fan of a championship team than a courageous supporter of failure.

Not everyone is like you, thank God and Greyhound.

How about these gems from one of Starr's former coaches?

Here are some gems from that great coach.

"It's easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you're a winner, when you're number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you're not a winner. "

"It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up."

"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall."

"I don't think there's a punch-line scheduled, is there?"
Vince Lombardi

BTW, I love Calvin and Hobbs.

This whole thing comes down to whether you care more about winning football games or keeping Fulmer. It's that simple. I understand that some of you who are Fulmer diehards want it to be about something else. Everyone wants to stake the moral high ground. Claim the victim's role. I'm sure it's hard for many people to admit that they care more about the man than the program. We're all going to have to choose. Choose wisely.
