Who here is a supporter of having open competition for every position on the team that leads up to gameday and the starting lineups are decided on Thursday after practice. You run most if not all of the same plays anyway so why not run them all and let everyone have the same opportunity. I think competition is something that every football team needs and honestly I think it is something that Fulmer has gotten away from.

I support it if it would benefit the team. Not claiming to know what the outcome would be, it could have a negative affect.

Isn't that what they already do basically? I don't think the coaches are intentionally play inferior players. Some (JC) may have a little longer leash but it is what it is.

At some point you need to determine starters so that they can get used to working together and develop better timing and chemistry. This is especially true with offense. It's almost always best to find one QB and give him the vast majority of the reps with the first teamers.

I agree to a point, but the whole team should be able to play well together no matter who is out there.

playing as a team, with the same people lined up in the same spots, you are able to develop a better rhythm and flow in how you do things. It makes running the offense more efficient and more productive. Never knowing who is going to be where would just lead to mass confusion.

We've had this argument time after time on this board. I've never seen hard facts, but I just don't believe that we play Freshmen any less frequently than the average SEC team.

I'm not saying don't play the people who provide you the best chance for a rhythm, I'm saying why not let people compete for ALL positions so no one gets comfortable. Everyone has to be accountable and it's a good tool. Does that mean that the starter would play most of the game, well no but it would provide a chance for people to get meaningful snaps. Who know, we might find a diamond in the rough during game time.

Aren't you going way out on a limb making an assumption that the best guys aren't already on the field playing in the first place?

Class doesn't have anything to do with it. It has more to do with heart and output. Getting people playing time is the only way this team is going to succeed.

Not saying they aren't out there, but when the only way to prove yourself is practice and not on the field on gameday, then what do these players play for?? Practice time?? That has really panned out for Crompton.

and i'm telling you that you can't get into a rhythm unless you practice together. and then practice some more so that you get comfortable and can perform your duty on the field. If you are so nervous that you can be pulled at any time, you are going to make bonehead mistake after bonehead mistake.

(and yes, I said duty)

I actually have never been in that debate, but I might be imagining it.

I feel like at the RB, WR and LB spots he just will not start them.
