A probable prediction

I hope this happens. I am curoius, though, if it does will Butch win back part of the fanbase that wants him out now?
He will definitely repair a lot of the negativity, but he will have to do it by coaching his butt off in the process. He will have to earn it back regardless, the same way he lost it

CBJ will be here at least through the end of the 2017 season and maybe 2018 as well depending upon how next year goes. If UT wins more than 7 games next season, CBJ will be the coach in 2018

He won't make it through the schedule next year the wins just aren't there and the inexperience at QB doesn't help.

There are a lot of hopes and wishes in this thread just not much reality. He was never going to be fired this year and he probably won't be next year unless he is 6-6 or 5-7, ex players/coaches do not make the hiring decisions for the University. There isn't even an AD in place, never underestimate UT's ability to screw up hiring decisions. Johnny Majors was the last major Coach to be hired by UT but he was an ex player so you can't really count that. Those of you clamoring for some major hire are going to be sadly disappointed again.

Coming from the guy that wants to fire him mid-season next year and can't imagine a scenario where we hire a new coach because we have a lame duck AD.

Coming from the guy who wants to cripple our program right now

I doubt seriously Butch is ousted this year...for one main reason...the AD situation. The buyout talk is just not going to be a consideration. We don't want Dave Hart making a hire anyway!

However, I predict that he will be fired either after Florida or GA next year. They'll give Shoop the interim tag and the AD will have a season to evaluate and make a good hire. This is a now popular trend. It also gives them the opportunity to evaluate someone like a Shoop.

Now I know noone wants Shoop because his D was awful this year but it gives the university time while also giving someone an audition.

Jones was given 4 years to recruit and develop personnel. I think it is fair to give Shoop a one year pass because he neither recruited nor developed the roster he had to work with... nor did he have control over the S&C program.

At least he didn't have 5* players walk away from the program.

every body here has an opinion so I'm gonna say what mine is. next year if jg starts at qb instead of dormandy tenn will go 10-2 and win the sec and make the playoffs barring a lot of injuries. you heard it here first.

If Jones does not make changes to the S&C program and offensive scheme.... there will be a lot of injuries again.

Prestons attitude was piss poor

Hurd still doesn't make sense to me

Hart screwed us on the contract! Both the money part and the extension to 2020! Four year lame duck!
Not too well thought out...and similiar to something Hamilton might have done. Instead of paying large amounts up front....I'M positive of a few NFL up and comers, (not JB Cooter), who we could pay fairly and add incentive pay based on proven performance. Just the term buyout suggest leverage. If you don't think there aren't any pro OC's and DC's who would take UT's HC job you'd be sadly wrong. Harbaugh just bought in 9-10 assistants at UM from NFL. Yeah, I'm talking a diamond in the rough type. Just as with all contracts, give a little, take a little. When and if the time comes and we have Blackburn as AD we'll be alright. CBJ could do it now and it would be a good move for a new OC and give him complete control. Our QB's and line would be learning new schemes and I think CBJ feels that will be a setback. Vandy game could have been won if Offense would have played 2nd half this past Sat. UT will get past this with or without CBJ.

Yes, because the past 2 AD's have been great at picking football coaches. This idea that a new AD should have a hand in picking the football coach is ridiculous. We have plenty of people within our University family that we would all entrust to do a good and thorough job of hiring the next football coach.

Not as ridiculous as your statement.

There have been a ton of players with bad attitudes that were managed well, made contributions, and played for winners.

Hurd makes sense only if implicit or explicit promises were broken.

I don't think promises should be made to players at any time. But if Hurd didn't think he was getting more I back runs then he probably would have left last January. It seems pretty clear that he thought he had a commitment from Jones to get more of those plays.
