I am not putting this on the Recruiting forum because he is already on the team. Jacques Smith i watched him play in high school where he was a beast! And even though he played mostly at DE he played some linebacker. And he has plenty of speed to do it. he runs a 4.5 or 4.6. Since we are thin at LB and D-line he will probley just stay at DE but with alot of D-line men getting healthy and coming back next year i think we will be weaker at linebacker. Rivals talks about is great speed. Jacques Smith - Yahoo! Sports

And ESPN talks about how physical he is and if you have espn insider it says they could see him playing LB Jacques Smith 2010 Football Recruiting Profile - ESPN

don't understand why people think our DE rotation is so steady for next year.

Because you got Smith, Miller, Martin, and Bohannon with Jackson being a hybrid DT/DE. Then you bring in Williams and probably one more to make it 7. More depth than we had this year.

We're not going to sign another DE. Take away Smith, as the OP suggested, and what do you have?

Doesn't look any better than this year BTW. You're replacing Walker and Williams with a freshman and a guy coming off an injury.

You can go ahead and take Malik off the list.

He is a full time DT.

Good question; I hope they look into it in the off-season

No you replace him with millar and (jackson or martin) starting And i know you haven't ever seen this happen but he could play DE on pass downs and LB on short yardage downs:crazy: Look i hear what you are saying but i think he will have a greater impact at LB were everyone says we arent talented enough and Jacques is plenty talented. I wouldn't have posted this if i havent seen him play LB and do good.

He was a full time DE at the beginning of this season. I realize the plan is for Malik to stay full time at DT, but if DE became a bigger need than DT next season, I bet the staff would start working him at DE again.

I tend to agree. I think the staff would only make a change back if an injury presented itself. They have preached from day one how their job is to put players in the best position for success. Malik was pissed about the switch in the beginning, but now is tearing it up. He is by far our biggest strength on the d-line...no way they tinker with that unless absolutely necessary.

With the use of the 3-4 increasing, the need for so many at DT will decrease and move some like malik to the edge. You could occasionally see someone that is a current DE move to OLB. it is not out of the question. we'll just have to wait and see what wilcox has in mind.

True. I see this eventually being the case, but there are way too many holes right now to run what Wilcox REALLY wants to run. I think Malik stays put for now, and being a junior, not sure if he will be around long to see the D-cox really take off.

The staff wants to sign another DE, so don't hold your breath on not signing one just yet.
