I was absolutely blown away with the scripted playcalling on the first 4 drives. DD/JC knew that they HAD to establish the passing game. Our best chance @ that comes from establishing the run. I'm no X's + O's expert, but whatever we were doing schematically with our OL was nothing short of impressive. We failed in executing the next step of the plan: pass and catch, and that's what got us. However, its encouraging that we were able to come out early and establish our will. I don't remember the last time we had a guy go for 120 on 15 in the 1st. We will clearly not be able to rely solely on this, but its where you start. Here's to a good week of practice and an improved performance for the Gotars. Go Vols!

Agree completely. This loss is not on the coaches.

3 pivotal plays

1.
Zack rogers dropping a first down on third down. Dooley knew it was a big deal and he could not believe it. You go to the junior because he seems steady. As a hard working wr who made himself into a good one at uva it hurt dooley more.

2. The defenseless player ruling. If the oregon players does not bobble the ball on his hands, no way the hit happens and they do not score on that drive.

3. Matt simms pick six...huge momentum changer and the missed tackles on defense followed. The wr was open by the way if the ball had been well thrown it would have been the success the coaches envisioned when they called it.

Coaches cannot make you successful they can only put you in the position to be successful. The players were in the position last night.

I agree as well. We are a well coached team. We got tired against the high tempo offense, and we just don't have the players to roll in and at and stay fresh. We had a good game plan and will have this Saturday as well.

That 70 minute game delay KILLED us. Stopped all momentum, dulled the crowd, and gave the ducks a chance to settle down and adjust

It played a role in allowing our guys to become mentally soft, but schematically: NO.
We executed the next 2 sets offensively and defensively. Our tackles got pressure on 2nd+3rd. Our coaching was there. We got beat mentally out there last night. It hurts, but its true. We have to maintain the level of execution through the "adversity" as DD calls it. You can't gameplan for a weather delay.

It definitely did not kill the crowd, i was there. People stayed out there in the storm screaming their butts off. Hardly anyone left during the delay and then as far as i could see no body even sat down throughout the 1st quarter and halfway through the second. It was probably the loudest I have ever heard Neyland for about a quarter and a half (Although Florida of '04 beats that)

Another positive note:
Neyland still has a higher capacity than Bryant Denny. We had 102,035 watching an unranked UT against Oregon while top ranked Bama had 101,821 against Penn St. We've got great fans.

Those great fans seemed to all be in the restroom or smoking for the 4th quarter. The stadium was near empty.

Could not disagree more. the loss last night should not be on this coaching staff or this roster of players. Depth and lack of experience cannot magically be manufactured. Witht he lack of depth and having ot play with so much inexperience versus top 10 teams, last night you see the results.

As fans our best approach is to support what we are while this program attempts to come back from the worse shape I've seen the program in during the 45 years I've been going to games. It is going to take time, quite some time. As soon as UT fans realize this and support the program the easier time for fans while it is rebuilt.

I've been through these more than once. takes time...

This loss is no ones fault? We just had no way of winning this game?

The execution was not there, the coaching was. We pick up the first down with 3 minutes left,
We tackle blount when he is running and simms takes a sack while we are in field goal range (or hits one of wrs or tes for a td on the many plays when they were wide open) and it is a totally different game.

If we were up 21 to 6 at halftime, Oregon would have been on the razors edge momentum wise from giving up like we did when we were down 14.

Yep, I agree. I thought it would quiet down after the rain and be a lot emptier, but I thought it got louder after the rain delay ended (I was there as well). I think everyone was extremely loud until 34-13 but you could tell after each Oregon score once they broke the 13-13 tie quieted the fans down. It was insanely loud. It just felt like the rain kinda bonded everyone and gave them a little break to come back more energized. My buddy and me actually went to McDonalds during the delay and came back just in time lol.

I do have one thing to say about the standing up in the game, though...

We were asked to sit down by an older couple RIGHT AFTER Tauren Poole broke open the first play for a 30 yard gain. This man about 65 or so tapped me on the shoulders and said "Could you sit down, we can't see the game"...and I'm like WTF we just broke a huge play on the first play of the game and the whole stadium is going crazy screaming and cheering, and this guy is asking me to sit down.

Anyway, someone that left after the rain delay gave us tickets on the 25 yard line lower level which was awesome and the crowd over there was standing up the whole game, too, and chatting instead of acting like we were standing in front of the TV blocking their view as if they were in their living room or something.

The crowd was electric, too, and it amazed me that someone would say that. I mean when Lincoln made that huge 48 yard field goal that rarely happens and the whole stadium was rocking, this guy just mildly clapped his hands about three times and was done.

I almost asked him if he was related to Fulmer...the experience was great, though, for my first game...to bad it turned out horribly after such a great start. The fans definitely did their part.

not in my opinion. they were certainly supposed to beat Tennessee and they did. Worse loss (points) since 1905. that was the difference in the 2 squads.

Not a 35 point difference, larry. They gave up. Sure we may not have won, but we had what we needed to be in the game. We were tied @ the half. We puckered our arses in the 2nd. They've gotta learn to weather the storm. The good news is they'll all be srs and jrs in 2 years. (Hopefully. Dear God don't fire him before he takes a class Fr to Sr)

I think that is still to be determined if they are 35 better or not. We will see how season plays out. Not sure if we had not quit, the results would have been same... not saying you are wrong, just think too early to know for certain...

Good point. Ill agree that its too early to know for sure. But judging by the first 30 min, I think we coulved kept it 10 pts or less.
