A New Site For All The Naysayers

Yes, there is a reason or reasons, and in my humble opinion there are no excuses in this first year. Everything is new/different, except for some of the players. See a coincidence?

If the results and the easons stay the same next year, then calling out "excuses" makes more sense, to me anyway. I just think comments like..."Yep, no excuse for that performance, yet excuses abound.... pretty typical around here" is just lazy and pretty much an excuse not to have an open mind while discussing the subject.

But again, that's just my opinion.
That’s fine, I think simply writing it off as same players as last year can’t do anything with them is a very lazy line of thinking. Agree to disagree I suppose. Just my opinion. Also how am I not keeping an open mind? I literally asked you for your thoughts on the subject because I was interested to see it from your point of view... apparently just an invitation to attack me. But I’m the lazy one.

That's fair, although it wasn't an attack.

I don't know and I've been clear about it. I don't buy that its sorry coaching though. It's been 9 games and we all talked about the lack of talent before season even started. So I obviously think that's part of it.

We did have a tough schedule, but I know that doesn't explain losing by 26 and the Charlotte game. We still have 3 games left too. I know we look at them and think it doesn't look good, but...?

The board is obviously to discuss it and give opinions. Your opinion was "excuses abound", that, IMO, wasn't showing you were being very open minded. I also hesitate to offer too much, because I know you think its just excuses. Right?

I have no idea, but there was a reason for it somehow someway right? There really isn’t an acceptable reason to play like that against such an inferior opponent.... can you give me an example of what would be a good reason for it?
It either skill or will. Not having the skill to run the scheme or not having the will to learn the scheme and work to be good enough to run the scheme.

I’m in no position to evaluate which one it is. Give me some time in the film room and practice field and I might have a chance to tell.

The expression, “Eat, drink and sleep football.”,is the deciding factor. The use of their free time is critical in their development. I realize they are college students and the academic aspect has to be addressed.

As for coaching, seems to me we are forcing the issue GM it comes to scheme. Knowing we don’t have the players they want to run the schemes they want but still forcing it. We need to call plays that have a chance to works with the players we have.

A slow developing pass play on 3rd and 10 is not the answer. Catch and throw is what worked with Auburn.

Although some posters on here give vol fans a bad name, part of what makes this site so great is the discussion. This place would be super boring if every post was:

"I think (insert name here) is going to do well this week"

"I agree"

"me too"

"go vawls"

Too many excuses! :)

If only there were a way to ignore that....
Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't need to? There are many who have been ignored, but I would prefer not to ignore all. Some actually come up with good, well thought out posts. Rare though they may be, it does happen.

No I don’t think everything is an excuse, which is why I asked. I’m pretty open minded and if I’m missing something I’d just like to know. Anyway I’m not really putting it all on the coaching... I do however believe that in a game against a team like charlotte, who even though we aren’t overly talented still have mountains more talent than them, there really aren’t to many GOOD excuses to go out there and let them play pretty much toe to toe with you for the entirety of the game.

So itçs ok to hear the same old,**** as long as it's unrealistically positive, ok bud.
Actually, it is no better for the "everything is wonderful, the team/coach is perfect" crown either. I think it would be nice to just discuss the topic(s) at hand without reading the same mindless posts in every thread. The "namaste" group posts constant unicorns and butterflies posts and the "Bah Humbug" group hates every decision and every player and every current coach.

Nope, not at all. If you are only a fan of the Vols based on wins and losses then why are you a fan of the Vols again?

We have been trash for a decade+ and I still pull for the Vols as much as I did in the glory years. But in sports, you play to win. You recruit to win. Fans pay money to watch the team compete for a win. Coaches get paid millions to win. It’s common sense. Read a book

No, you said wins and losses were the only thing that mattered, now you're saying something entirely different. Looks to me like they are competing for wins every week.

I've not seen ANYBODY on here that thinks everything is wonderful or perfect. Several see all of the team's faults but choose not to harp on them constantly.

Because it’s a sport. That’s the whole point. Why else would they Be there? You’re just making my point. Lol. But feel free to show me where I said “wins and losses were the only thing that mattered” I’ll wait.

Agreed. I have still seen a few of the extreme sunshine pumpers, though they are less frequent right now. Seeing the faults and discussing the status of the team is great. I actually love spirited discussions, but don't get the chance to be on here as much as others. I end up with a lot of hit and run posts out of necessity, but would enjoy more time. My complaint has always been the handful of posters that continually gripe about the same topic (Hate coach___, Hate Player___, Hate administration, should have hired____...etc.) that try to derail every thread. The team needs work, but constantly pointing out every flaw with no real analysis doesn't benefit anyone other than the poster. As much as I hate to, I have blocked some of the posters that I just can't take anymore. I used to block everyone I disagreed with, but man, the threads got awfully short. ;)

The existence of pumpers gives the administration all the ammunition it needs to maintain the status quo ante of hiring crappy, unqualified coaches, letting the stadium go to seed, and all the other lazy BS that with which UT has become synonymous. Having said that, I would never want to ghettoize their contributions. Each and every day they serve as a stark reminder of just how deeply fat complacency can drive one into the gutter. Shine on you crazy pumpers!

So you think our current staff is crap?

You said that you were a negative Nancy because we have not been relevant in years and if we were winning again then and only then could you switch to positive, said winning was what matters, so if wins are really all that matters to you I asked why you were a fan of the Vols if we never win? When I first asked you that I assumed it was because of our W/L record, you must be a fan for other reasons then.

You’re doing way too much.. winning breeds positivity and losing for a decade+ breeds negativity. It’s common sense. Let it go man.

I've got 15 or so cut off, I get a kick out of it. They are always crying and trying to "get" somebody with simple minded attempts. Did you frequent the old Gridscape board in the past?

No I didn't. To be honest, This is the first forum board I have ever really haunted. I like the layout, the vast majority of the posters and most importantly; the FREAKishly great way this board is maintained.

when all the bricks got knocked down it takes time to clean up the mess.....
this team is improving and has more fight in it than last years...
CJP wants to play big boy football and run it at you even if you know we running it...
only problem is WE do not have the BIG BOYS to do it yet....
I believe CJP is putting is game plan in place whehter we have the talent for it or not..The ones that do have the talent will be much better next year for it...
Life long VOL fan and always will be....

That type of fandom is most often prefaced by the words "fair weather". If you only like the team when they win, are you really a fan? I have been a fan since before I went there in '81 and have been through the ups and downs along the way. I have posted many times on this board that I go into every game/season pulling for the best result. I am happy if we are successful, disappointed and sometimes angry if we don't make it, but the next season/game starts the cycle all over. Last year was the very first that I actually stopped watching the team in over 38 years.
