Kinda wish one of the sites would introduce a different system, like perhaps adding a sixth star or actually using one and two stars to rate players. I'd like to see a little of both. Add a sixth star for the truly elite, top 1 or 2 percent. 247 has sorta done this already with rating players over 100. Then, spread the 3s and 4s out some. Haven't followed recruiting near to the level that many have on here, but aren't about 75% of all FBS recruits either 3 or 4 stars? And for the power conference teams, it's WAY more than that, I think. Just seems like something should be done or could be done to show a little more disparity among these athletes.
I don't disagree in principle, but the 5-star cohort of recruits is already an extremely small group. Out of Rivals' Top 250 nationally for this past recruiting season, only 33 (13.2%) were awarded that coveted 5th star (see Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals.com Rivals250 2013). When you add in all of the 4-star prospects that did not make that list, not to mention the much larger group of 3-star prospects, you are probably approaching the 2-5 percentile range.
Yeah, I don't know the best way to go about it. Wish I did for monetary purposes ha. Just seems so odd to see a player one spot away from getting that coveted 5th star, thus being a 6.0 (Rivals) and now appear as only one star better than a 5.5 rated guy. This is why most of us choose not to be star gazers, but it can make a big difference in class rankings, which is what most go by to determine the success of their class. All 5 stars being rated 6.1 on Rivals has never made sense to me either.
