The problem on Volnation today is that a lot of posters on here are simply too young to remember a really good Tennessee team. All they have known is bad to mediocre Tennessee football.

They didn't experience the "Decade of Dominance". They don't know how it feels to own Alabama and Florida. They don't know what it's like to be the team to beat every year.

Many of the so called "Nega-Vols" (myself included) do remember how it feels to be great...and just want to get back there.

Vols are 2-0. That is awesome. Hopefully we are 3-0 going into the Florduh game.

We have not looked as polished as we should by year 4. That is not good at all. The Coaches and players need to figure it out...I am ready for us to be great again.

We never really owned Florida, but of course that could've been different if we had played them more before they joined the SEC. The overall series record would probably be lopsided as hell in our favor tbh.

I luv this, football has changed. It's a different game and the coaches keep telling you that. We can't live in the 90's. That's long gone and we have to start over. I'm pretty surprised at how fast Butch has pulled it together myself.

Ah, so that explains it. The problem is youth. If one is old enough to remember the good old days then one is a NegaVol. Guess I'm a non-conformist.

A lot of these little tads never experienced an 0-6 start either.

I do get tired of the "fire the coaches" chorus every time we get frustrated but I figure everyone has the right to *****. I might complain too but I'll never turn in my orange.

Man, '88 was a tough time to be a Vol fan. I witnessed us lose to Duke at home. (I wonder if their head coach ever did anything else?) My favorite memory of that season though, was leaving the stadium at Memphis State chanting "1 and 6"

the old style smash-mouth, line of scrimmage, grind it out with occasional play-action deep pass is long gone. the game has evolved to more finesse,speed-oriented, style of play on offense which forces defenses to adapt. speed rules it seems and UT has to adapt. happy to have such a history of dominance even if it was brief. we will be back !:machgun::gun::bash:

We have a huge opportunity next Saturday to start a march toward greatness again...

Should have a lot of answers then..

I'm old enough to remember a good Vols team and when people would look at their schedule and see Tennessee with fear.

However...

It surely doesn't account for those that cannot see anything positive about this program. Good grief, there's a whole thread dedicated to how much Josh Smith sucks because he hasn't caught but only one pass this year. The kid literally saved our season last year and now people want to act like a horse's backside and act like a five year old?

Scratch that, worse than five year olds.

I understand looking at the negative side of things and offering criticism on parts of the program that aren't performing up to snuff, especially in light of the history of the Vols. However, there is no good reason fr some people to act the way they do in a public forum.

As mentioned, we've never owned Florida since SEC divison play (92 was the split but we played them in 90 and 91 as well). UT is 6-20 in that span, never winning more than 2 straight.

I was living in Raleigh in '88. I had an all you can eat buffet of crow to consume after that debacle.....and being the Dobbin Bent man I am made it that much worse because the spawn of Science Hill dealt us the blow.

DB huh, my dad worked for Kodak as did some of my family. 70's and 80's in Kingsport good times.

I remember the good old days, but I'm not a nega-vol. Our team has come a long way in the last four years. We need to ask ourselves, when was the last time we were 2-0? After this weekend, hopefully 3-0? It has been a while. I suggest quit nit-picking and enjoy the season! I see a great deal of progress!

Too young? I remember being really excited during the 50's. Then being dismayed under Mc Donald in the early sixties and so bad they put blue in the unies to add excitement. Then came good years under Dickey. The Battles, god help. and so on and so on.

I hate using the cliche "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result," but dammit I'm going to.

The coaching staff seems to be trying to do the same freakin' thing every year. There seems to be no progression along the O-line, Dobbs is still inaccurate, the coaches do not call plays that highlight Dobbs' strengths, we continually run the same freaking plays over and over again, etc.

Until I see these coaches make drastic changes in game-planning and player utilization, I will have my concerns. A good place to start would be rewinding the Iowa and NW beatdowns until they vomit. Why these coaches wait until a bowl game to completely unleash the offense still baffles the sh** out of me
