A lot of new looks on Offense

I hope this is true. We must be more multiple in our formations and play calling. I hope Butch allows the coaches to coach.

Who can guess why we sucked last year?
Who can also guess what we should realllyyy be worried about this season? :zeitung_lesen:

A few of my media friends have been telling me they are hearing a lot of changes in offense. A lot of 2 TE sets, backfield passing to RBs and a lot of under the center snaps. Some of this is function of new QB who are more polished passers (Dormady and JG) but also a lot is also Larry Scott putting his stamp on the offense.
It is still very early in the camp and no pads yet but I am excited to see new tweaks Larry will add to the offense.

Last season, I questioned why they had Barnett covering RBs rather than putting a LB on them. I believe that were doing that because they had confidence in Barnett and wanted scouts to see what he could do.

With that in mind, my first thought to there being increased 2 TE sets is they plan on giving Ethan Wolf and Jakob Johnson more opportunities. Until a RB other than John Kelly earns reps, tight ends could get a bigger share of touches. And with both of these guys being seniors, I would think Butch wants scouts to notice them.

Injuries... and I'm not being facetious. I think there is plenty of D talent and also think Shoop was by far Jones' best hire at least since arriving at UT and probably for his entire career. The other 2 defensive hires were pretty solid too.

IMHO, he was trying to surround Shoop with a staff that would do it Shoop's way.

Hopefully...NO MORE of this!

What I saw was App States' DLine plant and let the OLine rush to them and using the momentum to throw the OLine off balance. Did it repeatedly. They played dirty all game. Gimmick offense, injury timeouts to slow UT's momentum, using the OLine's monetum against themelves, clapping to screw up UT's timing. I wonder if GT employs all of these tactics? I'm going to go back and watch that defense again.

It would help if we had a RB that could hit the hole quickly and break a tackle. Hurd was like molasses from 5 yards in. This is a good example of just how bad his vision was. Hurd literally runs into the ass of our own lineman.

Unless Dormady lights it up, we're not going to score points as we did last year. So the defense has got to be much better. That clip shows two or three pathetic attempts to make blocks. Whew.

its a shame dobber didnt have a better defense to support him. not sure what the reason was, but, that offense was oretty darn good.

hope they work on some I-formation with a couple leading blockers when we need ten yards to salt the game away...:):)

Kinda glad to have a fresh new O coach and new QB; yeah we rang up the scoreboard against the likes of Kensucky, Mizzou, and Tennessee Tech, but I also remember App. St., Ohio, and USCjr; three teams we should have beaten handily. Don't get me wrong, I loved Josh, but he was very Jekkyl and Hyde, and held the ball too long. Just didn't have the vision needed or maybe was too timid to sticky it in there.

So, run head first into the first OL you see? If he would have literally cut back 2 ft to the right he could have made a good gain

The play was designed left. He did cut back right as soon as he saw Richmond whiff and fall on his face.

You can blame plenty on Hurd, but not that play.

Wouldn't matter who the RB was on this play. This is really just an all out ugly play for the line.
