Recent History of Tennessee Hiring Timing

Lane Kiffin was announced on Monday, December 1st, 2008. *Leaks began on Friday, November 28th, 2008.*

Derek Dooley was announced on Friday, January 15th, 2010. *This was 3 days after Lane Kiffin left for USC.*

Butch Jones was announced on Friday, December 7th, 2012.

I understand the timing is different this year with the early signing period and the number of coaching searches likely to be going on.

But I would expect a Friday announcement after the Vanderbilt game if I had to guess.

Just my opinion. Feel free to share yours.

If Dooley was coming back, he would have been announced 3 days after they fired Butch?

I will be thankful on Thanksgiving that B*tch is gone. I would love to be thankful for an announcement of the right coach. I actually expect a November announcement but who knows?

Weekend of SEC Championship steals some of the thunder of that game, while getting new coaches name publicized a lot to potential recruits...

Doug Mathews indicated on his "Big Orange Sunday" radio show (podcasts 104.5 the zone) indicated that AD is telling recruits "a coach will be in place by the 10th, or I won't have a job by the 20th"

I suspect after Vandy game. Sooner the better to get the recruits on board and excited.
Interesting on the behind the scenes take. He says Peyton and Fulmer will have a lot of input on the hire. Also, he said whoever it is should a) be able to play hard nosed football, not a finesse scheme, and b) better if he has defensive experience.

I take it that Doug Mathews isn't a big fan of the "zone read". Gosh, wouldn't it be good to see a QB under center with a tailback and a fullback? At least inside the 5.
