A Little Write-Up on Dan Gray by Rivals' Jamie Newberg

Why no one would want him in orange is crazy, but I keep forgetting our fan base does have a few nut jobs. Thanks Law

He's only a 3*. Everyone knows that to win championships it doesn't matter how much actual talent you bring in, develop, or retain on your roster... It only matters if you consistently rank in Rivals' top 5.

Don't you know anything yet?

I'd feel alot better if there was one db on our team that looks better than they did last year. Actually most of em look worse.

Minus the frosh and juco's of course.

Ummm, the freshmen and JUCOs are our starters? Waggner looks a lot better and is way more consistent, Gordon looks a lot better, the improvement of Brian Randolph, Byron Moore, Justin Lanier, and Justin Coleman have been remarkable since the opening game. Not sure who you are talking about outside of Teague. And even he has improved a lot in zone coverage (terrible still in man).

Not gonna argue but I aint seeing it.

I agree that it's difficult to say Teague has improved, but there's been noticeable improvement from the new guys and Waggoner.

The new guys yes. I just dont have last year to compare.

Noticeable improvement from Waggoner?

At which position?

I'm sorry. I understand the situation. JJ gone,Brewer out...but with all the guys we had coming back from last year (Teague,Evans,Gordon,Waggoner, and Brewer untill recently) I expected alot more out of our sec this year. Certainly didn't expect em to be the weak spot of our defense.

Waggner is playing well at corner, not sure what you're watching.

Waggoner is obviously our best corner and it's not close. He's struggling some at safety because he's playing out of position but he's been good at corner.

Since Terry Joseph played d.b. in college, he is the right man to teach Gray the position!!! Ooops, my bad, Joseph played baseball in college, not football!!!!

Wow, that's hilarious. I assume you'd say the same thing to Charlie Weis, Paul Johnson, mike leach, etc., right?

With the exception of Auburn, this is true.

From his highlight tapes it doesn't appear he has only played the game for a few years and that's a good sign for VN. I really like what I see. Could be a major steal for CDD.

I'm so tired of hearing how bad CTJ is. For those who are interested, Tennessee has the 17 best pass defence in the nation. Besides, all you guys who point out that he has never played football, and use that as your argument as to why he can't coach, I would apply the same logic to most of you and your comments. I would be willing to bet that 60% or more folks on this board never played a snap in highschool football. I'm sure some of you were on the team, but let's be honest, you never played. Before someone asks, no I didn't play, therefore I can safely say that I am qualified to recognize other armchair QB. Please just be quiet and let's see what the coaches bring in. CTJ will have a new, and from the looks of it, exciting group of DBs to work with next year. Let's see hwhat he does with them. If CDD wants to keep him, then go for it. Either way, if you aren't going to get out on the field and hit someone, then shut up.

In all fairness we haven't played an elite passing team, our opponents have been run oriented. This weekend will give us a much better idea of how we stack up against the pass.

That should help shut those of you that don't want this kid up.

Kids got elite speed. The rest needs work, but I believe it'll come. Watch those highlights, the unteachable stuff like his speed and the "want-to" to hit somebody is there. The rest can be taught.

And best of all. . .

He Wants It !

But seriously. I like what the OP shared. We need more athleticism on this team, and the defensive secondary has been worked over this year. (See AL & LSU, when we packed the box to stop the run and they took advantage of our single coverage on the outside.) This kid should be able to come in and push if not replace some of our current players.

GBO !

Speed kills!! Sounds like he has the tools. He can be taught to use them. Give him an orange jersey:rock:

He's going to need a teacher :)

Teaching is important.

I may be taking this as a jab at our coaching staff, and if I am wrong, I am sorry, but the way I look at it is Coach Dooley told us right at the beginning that he doesn't play attention to stars. He likes to look at the player in person to see what they are really like; not what someone else says about them.

Devron Young would have been rejected by our past coaches, and was not highly recruited, but Dooley and our coaches saw what he was capable of. Turns out they were absolutely right, and ALL the others, including the STAR appliers, were WRONG!

I ageed with his system from day one, and was glad to have a coach who would make sensible decisons to build our problem instead of allowing the "so-called" experts to decide whom he should choose.

Coach Dooley may make some changes, but this staff will get it done, and I am very glad they are here.

I agree! He needs to be taught not to listen the negative comments he may hear from his team's "fans"! Keep his heart in the game and GO VOLS! That is what all of our football team (coaches included) need to be taught on day one of orientation. GBO!:loco:
