A Little Reminiscing Tonight…..

Plenty of good times that season.
JH seems to know what he’s doing. I’m looking forward to the future.
This middle part has been tough. I expect JH to get us out of the ditch. So far so good.

UAB was the only game I made it to that year.

That entire season was amazing! Opening w/Syracuse, beating Florida, I believe we had DT (Ellis?)return an Auburn fumble/pick for a TD 90+ yds. Such a ping time ago, I could be mixing memories though.

I was leaving the game when Tee threw the incomplete pass. As I walked through the entrance to Section GG and before I got to the ramp, A feeling came over me to go back through the crowd to watch the next play which was the fumble. I was telling people leaving to watch this next play.

Sitting there in the pouring rain, (with AL Wilson limping off the field holding his shoulder) I felt so dejected and exhausted after Tennessee went 4 & out. I remember looking up and stretching my hands up to the sky just praying for a miracle. Everybody thought the game was over...... And then -- It happened! Billy Ratliff pushed the Offensive Lineman backwards and he stepped on Clint Stoerner's foot as he was backing away from center. The ball was on the ground, Tennessee recovered, And they COULD NOT BE STOPPED on that last drive. The Knoxville News Sentinel's front page news the next day was titled: "UN-VOL-IEVABLE!!!"

-- Special Game - Special Year! Especially since I was a UT Student at the time........

Reminiscing can be fun -- Anticipating what's next can be fun, too!

Beating FSU for all the marbles was of course our greatest moment….but when Clint Stoerner fumbled that November night in Knoxville, I’ve never had a more exciting feeling as a Vol fan. It was unbelievable.

Doc not sure where you live but Billy Ratliff runs or owns a sports bar off Emory Road here in Powell just north of Knoxville and the man has some stories. Look him up if you are ever near here

There’s often a fine line between champion and “also ran” status. It usually involves a little “luck” along the way - a play here, a play there. That year all the pieces fell in place … but probably 4-5 other seasons just as “good” during those quality years when it didn’t.

The “Stoerner Stumble”. When we won that game I felt the team was about to do something special. Arkansas was the last remaining (real) hurdle to the championship. The team was strong on both sides of the ball.

Billy Ratliff made a play. What championships are made of.

I think there was another thread discussing this game a few months ago. A classic for sure. So many people had left or were leaving when they heard a huge roar and raced back on or to the nearest radio to find out what happened

Quilty as charged. I heard the crowd, looked at my brother and said, "Ain't that many hog fans here", so we knew something good/great happened and went back.

OK Doc, I gotta ask. You have $1,000,000 in jerseys & memorabilia and this appears to be a rather small TV. I would expect you to have a cinema room. Is this your office TV?
