One of my best friends is a Georgia alum and a huge Dawg fan. Recently, just as us Vols, he had a set-back when they lost to the Ole' Ball Coach and his Gamecocks. Obviously upset, he let it settle for a couple days and yes, he participated in the rants on their chat site just as we did after Cal and Florida. But then it hit him as it has me. Here are a few thoughts to consider.

We are in the middle of College Football Season. Yes, that glorious few months when our Vols are taking the field sporting the Orange and White. Neyland is full of cheering fans and our friends are in our houses drinking bourbon and cheering for every first down when we can't be at the games on the road. Fall is in the air and we still have weeks of watching our Vols give it their all. With that being said, even though the season isn't what we all wanted it to be, January is coming and we will have months of nothing. No Gameday, no Volwalk, no tailgating, no running through the T, nothing but wondering what next year will bring and 547 damn NBA games. True we have Pearl and the Big Orange basketball season, but it isn't Football.

So with that said, even though we are not enjoying the dominating season we had hoped for, be happy in the fact that we are once again cheering on our Volunteer Football Team and don't waste this opportunity fuming over spilt footballs. It is more than W's and L's. If you don't agree then you are missing the Big Orange picture. Enjoy the passion that is the Vols and understand that it is truly a gift to belong to such a great tradition in the good times and bad.

Go Vols!

Caring is one thing but being miserable the entire short season because it isn't as successful as we had all hoped is a bit silly. How much impact do you really think we have in a game. Are you the QB or one of the coaches? No, you are like me standing in the stadium yelling or at home yelling but overall we are just spectators watching the game. I for one enjoy watching and participating in all of the rituals surrounding those few Saturdays when we all gather to watch the Vols. Of course I want to win and I want the changes that will lead to that to happen sooner than later, but my life is very stressful and I frankly can't add any more stress to my plate so I choose to enjoy the rest of the season regardless of the W's and L's because frankly, I don't matter in the big scheme of things and neither do you.

I disagree. I think change can be effected if enough people voice their dissatisfaction loudly enough, for long enough. Granted, the big donors are the ones with the say, but even they see what is happening in the world and the unease of fans.

Why do I hate losing like UT is? because no game is as exciting when you expect to lose, nor is it exciting to get blown out by 29 points. Every saturday is just another game we may win or lose. How boring.

:lolabove: I assume that's satire. Seems to me that not being sure going into a game is more suspenseful -- and therefore not boring.

Of course, it's more fun to win.

Well put. The Thrill is Gone (at least for now).
