I never thought in a million years that people would be blaming Monte Kiffin for the ole miss game. I'm hearing things like Monte scheme doesn't work or Monte had a bad game-plan. To those people I say Please WATCH THE REPLAY OF THE GAME. and when you do have a pen and paper handy and start adding up all the missed tackles. The tackles that were missed because they were broken, the tackles that were missed because mccluster juked our defensive player, and the tackles that were missed because we took bad angles to the ball. MONTE had the players in the right position WE JUST MISSED TOO MANY TACKLES. I've also learned recently that a lot of people on the nation don't really follow the NFL all that close. I do, and I know how good Monte is as a great defensive coach, he is a mastermind. But to help my argument and show those people blaming Monte some real hard cut in dry facts I went to Pro-Football Reference.com and dug these stats up.

Monte Kiffin joined the Tampa Bay Buccs as Defensive Coordinator In 1996. Here is how his defenses Ranked out of 32 NFL defenses until the time he joined the VOLS.

Total Defense / Rushing Defense

1996-20th 22nd-* first yr didn't have his players
1997-3rd 6th
1998-2nd 8th
1999-3rd 5th
2000-9th 9th
2001-6th 12th
2002-1st 5th
2003-5th 13th
2004-5th 19th
2005-1st 6th
2006-17th 17th
2007-2nd 17th
2008-9th 19th

*Only out of the top ten in total defense. one time in 12 years after his first season.CRAZY
Those stats are mind boggling when you consider that in the NFL you have to deal with the Salary cap,Free-agency, and the amount of turnover in teams. It' not like college where if your a powerhouse as long as you recruit well, coach well, and keep your nose clean you will stay a Powerhouse.

Bottom line- Our players were in position to make plays they didn't. Monte is partially to blame because he is the Defensive coach so he has to take responsibility. But the threads and people that are acting as if Monte can't stop the spread or wildcat or he is too old school. Do some research and actually watch the game not just the score. V/B

Let him watch film all summer. I can't wait to see what he cooks up for next season. You know it irks him that Auburn and Ole Miss ran all over his Defense.

I still wish Monte could meet all the naysayers doubting him.....just so he could make them kiss his SB ring.

You ever think that the reason we have difficulty against the spread is because the spread Spreadsour defense out. Therefore instead of gangtackling we are forced to make one on one open field tackles and that's kind of difficult to do with some of the players Fulmer left?

Whats really impressive is Monte had to overhaul that defense in his last 5 yrs in Tampa. And they still were top 10 when he left.

Anyway to say Monte Kiffin can't stop an offense is really foolish. Our team has more experience defending Pro - Sytle Offenses b/c thats what our offense runs. We naturally have a tendency to play better vs pro style. This is just silly to blame Monte for Saturday. He knows more about defense than anyone who is commenting on this thread. I'll move on to a recruiting thread or something worth my time to read now.

Don't even try. That clown is nothing more than a toenail chomping troll who lives in Grandma's basement.

You're right. THIS year he won't, but not because he can't figure it out. Come back in 2011 and see how much smarter the old man has become.

Football is just like the circus. It doesn't matter how great the trainer is if you don't have the animals.
