A Little Ahead of Their Time

The spread only works in college ball because there isnt pro quality talent at every position. It relies a lot on defenders giving into their nature and getting faked out of their britches. Most college guys never have a snowballs chance of playing pro ball, and coaches who run the spread play into the fact it is very easy to head fake a kid who is playing more with his heart than with his head.

The 2004 team would have been great imo Schaffer Riggs Houston Tinsley Brown Fayton Swain Smith Meachem we could have been a really good spread team

Is misdirection huge? Your synopsis is an extremely watered down explanation though. New guy doesn't come in an clown the vets without a little something more than hoping he can fake everyone out every play. The misdirection involves getting a personel advantage in a given area due to MANY more things than playing on a defenders instinct. (The defense has coaches too)

I really think Tee. Probably would have been more comfortable in the spread.
Less down hill passing, more options at the LOS.

Any starting UT tailback between 1927 and 1958. George Cafego, Beattie Feathers, Hank Lauricella, or Johnny Majors would have been exactly what they were running the single-wing: concensus all-Americans.
