A Letter to Coach Dooley

Why? He is going to fired. He is going to get paid.

People can want to crucify him now and want to hate on me for respecting what he stands for.

But the fact is: He isn't the answer when it comes to the on the field product. And he is going to get paid to go away.

Because its not about the money. It's about seeing a guy a lot of us wanted to see succeed fail. Money is money, but this goes much deeper than that.

yea except for the fact that kiffin won more sec games in his one year than dooley has in his 3..just minor details i guess

I want Dooley gone but Kif won with Fulmer's recruits that a few went to NFL. Kif even said the next few years would be tough. Then, he proceeded to leave and had a class that alot of it fell apart and made things worse for CDD. CDD may not be a great coach but DO NOT GIVE credit to CLK. He hurt this program and SUCKS!

my letter to coach dooley

dear moron,
thanks for destroying the winning tradition i have enjoyed for the past few decades at tn, please dont let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.

Wow really? You forget he was about the only coach willing to take over our mess of a program. But don't let facts get in the way, Fulmer's recruiting misses and the miserable Lane Kitten recruiting failure had nothing to do with this mess.

I think I agree with the OP. We have definitely seen some significant improvement, but at the end of the day, it's about winning football games and maintaining a respectable program. I'm still proud to be a Vol, and I know that Dooley is doing everything he can to create a winning program. But that doesn't mean he is capable of accomplishing that goal. Hart has a tough decision to make. I'm glad it's not me, and I'm sure whatever decision he makes it will be what he thinks is in the best interest of the program.

Nice letter OP. I can get behind the sentiment. He tried, he did.

Fulmer won, what was it 157 games? He got a 6 million dollar buy out. This guy goes 0-5 to start the SEC slate three years in a row and he gets 5 Mil? Thanks Hamilton!

I liked the guy, hoped he would win some games that mattered...then he lost them in every inconceivable way, never seen anything like it.

Nah, I think the Dooley's will be fine, they gettin' a big pay day. However, the assistants and their families aren't as lucky and I wish them success and luck in their next endeavor.

Don't thank Dooley for taking over a troubling program. He got overpaid for the job he did and he's leaving with $5 million dollars to sit on his ass. I don't feel sorry for him.

(My first thread created on VN. A fake letter from a fan. Figured its not the worst first thread ever)

Dear Mr. Dooley,

I would like to take this moment to first say thank you. You stepped up to the plate during the turmoil caused by the sudden departure of the previous coaching staff. You put your blood, sweat, and tears into this program. That is the kind of person we expect to lead the University of Tennessee.

However, we also expect the leader of the football team for the University of Tennessee to show results on the field. We expect there to be some improvement from year to year. While there has been some improvement in some aspects of the game (Offensive Line), there has been some regressions as well (Defensive Secondary). We put one foot forward but the other takes a step back. This has become evident by our consistency of now starting 0-5 in SEC play the last 3 years now. That is not direction that fans are wanting their team to move in.

No one questions your determination. No one questions for effort. No one questions the example you set for our players. You put yourself out there as a confident and charismatic face of the Tennessee football program. However, the product on the field is lacking in the tradition we have come to expect at the University of Tennessee. We know that you can't go out there and throw the ball. We know you can't catch it. We know you can't make or break tackles. However, as a leader, you are accountable. Just as in business- the man at the top must accept ultimate responsibility whether the product is good or bad.

While we appreciate the dedication you have had to the program- we also must say farewell. There is no doubt you will be leaving this program in a better state than you found it. For that we can be grateful. However, your lack of noticeable progress in achieving the historical excellence we come to expect at the university forces us to turn to another direction.

Thank you again for your time. Good luck wherever the future takes you. You may not have the best stats in the W/L column, but you are a man of integrity. Hold your head up high. Giving your all is nothing to be ashamed of despite the results.

Sincerely,
A Fan.

---------------

tldr: While I appreciate Coach Dooley's time and investment in the program, it is clear we need to go a different direction. He gave it his best shot but it just isn't enough at this point in his career to return TN to excellence.

There is no doubt he is a man of integrity and as that type of man he does deserve that much respect. He has been a great moral leader for the program. However, his lack of results (or even progression of achieving those results... 0-5 SEC start 3 years in a row. Progression of one aspect of the game but regressions in others, etc) is a clear indicator that he is not the future of the program if we want to be as relevant as we once were.

I have nothing against Derek Dooley as a person. I wish him no ill will. I just don't think he can turn the program into a National Contender on the field. And ultimately- that is what he was hired to do. People defend him saying it is the player's fault for their performance on the field- unfortunately for Dooley, being the HFC comes the responsibility of being accountable for the player's actions on and off the field.

I don't get it. If that's the way you feel why don't you actually mail it to Dooley? Why take all that time to write a fake letter to Dooley for everyone to read but him?

Nice thoughts. But I do feel bad about what's about to happen to you on here.

Nice thoughts but he won't be fired!! I am willing to say that we will not be able to get a "homerun" coaching hire, so we will stay with Dooley one more season.

I'm sure Dooley would appreciate more a post it note with "You're Fired" attached to a $5,000,000.00 check.

forget the note...just give him the 5MM, he wanted it after KY last year...so time to pay up, for Hambone's decisions
