One of the commentators had this to say during the Vandy game. He said that Lofton coming out of high school was good but not good enough at the time to be recruited by Kentucky, Kansas, UNC type teams because he was so one dimensional and Lofton just happen to do better than expected in college and we got lucky. Is this true? thoughts

It's true that he wasn't recruited by any big-time college programs...I'm sure UNC and Kansas had no interest, and Kentucky chose other guards instead.

I don't think it's true that he got "lucky." Chris has worked hard on his game...you don't hit 400+ three pointers at the SEC level by getting lucky.

No it was that the Vols got lucky he worked out.

Ah...well, I'd say Lofton's development has been better than anyone expected of him coming out of high school.

I'd say it's been a mix of a lot of hard work, good coaching, and a little bit of luck.

Lofton hasn't developed dramtically as Dykes implied. He was Mr. Kentucky hoops then because he could shoot it. He was player of the year in the SEC last year because he can shoot it.

With the three having the impact it does, you won't see shooters of his ilk being passed upon by the big daddies any more. Lack of shooting has doomed UK more than anything Tubby might have done at the helm.

I find J. Dykes very irritating. This guy can take one point and harp on it for 2 hours unlike anyone. Shadow defender, impact of coaching from 94 feet away, whatever...he just goes on and on.

Dykes was a coach at Kentucky at one point. Fact is that everyone associated with Kentucky is tired of hearing how they overlooked Lofton (which they did). He was Mr. Basketball in Kentucky and wanted to go there. Yes we were fortunate to land him, but the fact remains that Kentucky made a mistake in not offering him.

Don't forget how he argued we "lost the time out points" last night against Vandy referring to basically two plays in the game. One, Lofton calling timeout right before half-time with UT failing to convert. And, again in the second half with Vandy scoring after a time out.

He was deriding UT for losing the plays coming out of a time out. That, my friends, is just looking for something negative to comment on. Especially when you are dealing with two plays during the entire game. He made it seem as if was the difference in the game.

Hasn't Dykes called just about every UT game that been on tv this year? Raycom or ESPN. He is very irritating.

You mean like the 100 times last night when he referred to our press being "hot"?

That was Jimmy Dykes. You should ignore anything he has to say. He also stated that the big Aussie for Vandy picked up a foul last night because a Tennessee player had "legal guardianship" of the lane. As I recall, he was a freshman all-america (3rd team.) He is an outstanding player, especially considering his physical limitations, but he has been for all 4 years.

QFT. Between his sophomore and junior years, he did develope into more of a complete scorer as opposed to strictly a shooter, and as a senior he is as "heady" of a player as I've seen in the conference, but he has been an exceptional college player for his entire career. He was simply someone the big boys missed because he is small and not particularly quick.

It's true that he wasn't recruited by any big-time college programs...I'm sure UNC and Kansas had no interest, and Kentucky chose other guards instead.

That is true, although Louisville did offer before the ink was dry on his commitment to UT. Kentucky signed McD's AAs Crawford and Rondo, plus highly regarded Bradley, rather than Lofton. It was a decision that is only questionable in hindsight.

It drives home a point I try to make on the football boards.. Get good kids with a big heart and a lot of want to and mix them in with the kids who are widely recruited and usually the cream will rise to the top.

Yeah they also
*Called UT, Kentucky with no correction
*Named JaJuan the best NBA guard prospect on the court
*Put Stallings on the IU coaching short list

Yes and he added Jajuan in that statement but ended it by sayin the both of them have worked their way up to being that caliber of player or somethin along those lines

Oh yeah and they put Bruce out there by saying he should be on Indians short list we can thank for putting more fuel behind that

I still have nightmares of Dykes talking about the "shadow defender" in the UK game. He also talked about the "pick and sprint" nonstop during the Florida game.

In the Vandy game, all he talked about was country music, and shane fosters height.
