The good:
  • Pearl's club has the talent to play with the best of them. He will need to convince his players to stick around, but Tennessee is still on the fast track to being a premier hoops program.
  • This team plays with a LOT of heart. There is enough passion and energy to get to make the final four.
The bad:
  • If Lofton leaves, it could be a very rough start in winter '07 for the Vols. The non-conference matchups are where the selection committee looks to for big wins. The team did a lot of great things, but that was largely predicated on Lofton's three point game. Pearl needs to find or develop another gun slinger, and he needs to start now.
  • Free throws. This is the one real bad point of the Vols game right now. It's pretty pitiful, and that's how you win games deep in the tournament. This goes hand-in-hand with...
  • Inside presence. Need much more of it. It's how you maintain that late-game lead, and draw those fouls. I do see the young talent blossoming into good post presence, though.
All in all, a very good season for Tennessee. Some big wins, this team is going to be extremely good while Pearl is coaching. Too many threads going on for me to express all my thoughts, so I decided to start one. I'll let it sit around until it invariably gets merged or buried.

Lofton will not leave.
I dunno, I could see him doing either. On one hand, the team is poised to do great things, and his shooting paves the way. On the other, I'd bet his stock is pretty high. He's already got an NBA three point range, and plays very hard. He will be drafted if he decides to come out.

There's also some give and take if he stays vs. if he leaves... Tennessee needs to focus more on the inside game. Pearl HAS to. I think removing a guy like Lofton from the mix would force more attention on that post presence, which would be very good.

Do ya think we could get Oden's illegitimate son?

He is too short.. you really need to be atleast 6'4, probably taller to be "ideal" for an NBA SG... he won't come out this year due to that... he's proved people wrong and I think he can suceed in the NBA but he's not going to be high on anyones draft boards.

Lofton is coming back.

He's a great shooter, but there's no guarantee he'd even get drafted, much less get drafted in the first round. #5 will have to play some PG in the NBA, and he's not ready to do that...I think he'll end up on an NBA roster, but he's not leaving early.

I think the current team is pretty tight. I doubt Lofton is leaving for a potential NBA draft.
