A Few Thoughts on Summer Practice

Rex, your bit on Randolph is spot on and the "mystery for Dateline NBC" made me lol. Rex, you probably suffer from some of the same misconceptions that I do from VN. Once the negavol label is on you, its hars to shake, especially when posters just ignore or dismiss your positive posts because its just easier to play up the nega label for them. Jmo.

Don't put a freakin' freshman at KO or punt returner. Why do coaches always want to put a speedy freshman in that role when they are guaranteed to fumble and cost you a game. Don't understand it. The odds are much higher that a freshman will fumble before taking it to the house--much higher.

Your post correlates nicely with your username.

Just ready to see some pads popping. All this pre season hype is awesome, and I haven't looked forward too or been excited for a season since 2005 when we were preseason #3 and just had won the cotton bowl. Let's go out next friday and knock the Sh*t out of someone and get a W

What excites me is we finally have what appears to be legit big and athletic bodies on the D-line with some quality depth for the first time since maybe 2008. No more playing undersized out of position guys and no more relying on true Freshman for extensive playing time.

6) Very encouraged that it seems like Neal is finally going to live up to his potential. The fact that he owns all but one strength and conditioning record for his position in program history and didnt enter this year as the unquestioned #1 rb is criminal imo.

why should he have been the auto #1? The way he put the ball on the turf was criminal

Workout numbers are great as long as they translate into results on the field.. Hope he can do that

Good point on Teague. I have to admit that I bashed him pretty bad last year along with most everyone else. It's great to see him stepping up on the field as a senior and hopefully he'll do the same on/off the field as a leader.

Does anyone else think that having a new DC in Sal and other new position coaches has kinda given new life to some of the players that may have been further down the depth chart in the eyes of Wilcox and others last year?

I think that's a possibility with a player like Teague. Greg Clarke is another guy that this may be the case with. I could be totally wrong just curious if anyone else thought that maybe some players have felt like they're getting a second chance to impress different position coaches.

Boys we are about ready to explode on some people. This is going to be an all out Orange Crush of a year.

5 years of misery - 3 different head coaches - many different recruiting cycles - staff turnover - player attrition ..... IT ALL ENDS AUG. 31, 2012.

Tennessee is mad, angry and out for revenge. We are no longer down for the kicking.

This time, we will stand firm, and before you can even take a swing, we will punch you in the mouth. And we won't stop until we're ready to stop.

I'm not quite as pessimistic as you, but I do have concerns about LB. It just sounds to me like the first time Lathers tries to go "all out" in a practice or game he will re-aggravate one of his injuries and be shelved for the year. Not a knock on him...I really feel bad for his situation. But it just doesn't sound like he's going to be able to make it very deep into the year. Hope I'm wrong. Thoughts?

I didnt want to sound pessimistic, but i can see how it would sound that way. Pessimism would be having a totally bad outlook for the whole year and i dont. I have said it once and i will say it again that this season will be as successful as Tyler Bray. I believe our defense could be in the top of the SEC if our starters stay healthy, but people will get hurt and i just dont see herman playing much of the year. Also, i took a little flack about Channing being a good replacement to Herman because of his orange and white game performance. My opinion is that channing switched from offense to defense and has only had a couple months in his new role. I just dont believe he can make the switch in that short of a timeframe and be an SEC level middle backer.

I'll never understand all the butthurt jealousy on this forum.

It is a world wide problem. This board is merely a snapshot. -- Lewis and Wilson got up to around 460 on the bench according to Mike Mayoch. Brought it up during the 98 UF game back when he was a sideline reporter. If RN is putting it up like Jamal that is big news. To me at least. Maybe he can squeeze the ball better.

I had season tickets until my divorce, I give to the Tennessee Fund like clockwork, and I graduated from Tennessee. How can I be called negative? I wonder how many posters on here actually support the university financially?

Rex must have read from the New Testament this morning instead of the usual Old Testament

Psalm 30:5
New Living Translation (NLT)
5 For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime!
Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.

My morning devotion was on this verse, but I appreciate the joke. :)

my point was that he has the ability, but not the production and that is criminal.

I hope the coaches and players share your enthusiasm

10) The future is bright my friends, especially if we can catch a few breaks this year.

We have shown some butterfingers in trying to catch those in the past. I agree with you. It is past time for us to catch at least a few this season.

My comment was directed toward those that have issues with people bringing info to this board via copy and paste. It's unreal. Childish really.
Then there again, it might be part of a long going, fun, jab in the ribs. Idk..

Has anyone heard how Rajion Neal has been doing with his ball security issues? He has a chance to be a very good back as long as he doesn't lay it on the ground like he was last year. Any news on this issue?
