A Few Random Quotes From An Oregon Board.

YouTube - Go Vols!!! We're on our way back up!

I have been to several Big 10 games in the Big House, including two Ohio State-Michigan games. If you Ducks are thinking Neyland compares to The Big House in loudness because they're both 100,000 plus, then you're in for quite a surprise. Michigan Stadium is a bowl that doesn't rise up but instead spreads out. It is the quietest 100,000 I have ever heard, not because the fans aren't cheering or passionate, but because the sound is not held in by the stadium. Neyland is the opposite, with the stands starting practically on the team benches and rising straight up. The sound not only is held in but when 105,000 are singing Rocky Top in unison it reverberates. The past few seasons the program has been down by our standards and there haven't been as many moments to crank it up, but an OOC night game against a Top 15 team will have the joint rocking. I encourage all Duck fans to make the trip, it is a game day experience that is as good as any in college football. And since you will have all your teeth and therefore won't be mistaken for Alabama fans you will be shown quite a bit of southern hospitality.

YouTube - The Vols Running through the "T" on Halloween Night against the Gamecocks.

Except that since they put that stupid jumbotron in the end zone, the crowd is quite muffled. That thing takes the crowd right out of the game... I would rather have the old 76,000 seat stadium sans TV and a hollering crowd than the pro atmosphere we have now... State your case to the contrary.

It's unfair to compare this year's team to last year's team, because although we're short on experienced talent, I believe we're more of a team than a group of individuals.

Just hearing about how the O-line is bonding, hearing that Oku is stepping up as a leader, that two talented wide-outs have no qualms about moving to DB, it shows that our guys will do anything to win.

I'd bet my last dollar that CDD and the rest of the staff will have our boys ready. I don't know if we'll win, but Oregon definitely won't come in and dominate us. That's for darn sure.

How has Oku stepped up as a leader? I havent read anything about this. Can you give me some info?

Thanks!

Very stupid. You're a ducks fan.

im excited for the game. should be a good sec vs pac 10 matchup. both with new qbs.
im coming to the game, already got my tickets. so question is where are some must eat restaurants i must go to in knoxville to get some true southern food?

Wow, the prejudice on both sides of this thread is pretty damned bad.

I did my undergrad at UT and my grad work at Southern Oregon. Here's my understanding, having lived in both states:

1. Both states have rednecks. About the same percentage of the population, actually. Advantage: none
2. Both states have exaggerated silly populaces. Oregon's hippies and UT's hillbillies are really quite rare, they're just so overly caricatured and filmed that it seems like more. Advantage: none
3. Both states are hotter than blazes. Oregon is actually 2/3 desert/arid. The difference is the humidity. I'd take 100 there over 80 here any day. Advantage: UT, by a country mile on Gameday (OU won't know what hit them!); Oregon for daily life.
4. Football here and football there are totally different. They have a ravenous corps of fans and a lot of "Meh, it's cool" people. It's a way of life here. Advantage: UT

5. Removed. I was being a jerk.

Note: Someone who claims to know a bit about the University of Oregon would never refer to it as OU. That's the equivelant of referring to Tennessee as TU.

Here's a couple geographic facts for comparison. Oregon is well over twice the size of Tennessee in square mileage, 94k to 41k. Larger than Kentucky and Tennessee combined. While Tennessee is much larger in population 6.3 mill vs. 3.8 mill for Oregon. Making Oregon in general a much more rural state than Tennessee. You will find also that the vast majority of the state lives in a very small portion of the state called the Willamette Valley, making the rural areas even more empty. I really don't know why I went off on this, it's just that when people start making generalizations about a place I guess you have to look at more information.

I definitely do agree with most of what the poster said.

I usually just lurk over here and stay out of things (other than some good-natured ribbing between neighbors/rivals). But this Oregon crap has gone on long enough. I hope you guys not only beat the Ducks but completely embarrass them and the whole PAC-10. Oregon has obviously excepted their new role as the shining star of the most overrated overhyped conference in football. Their stadium holds 57K people??? There is usually that many standing outside of an SEC venue that couldn't get tickets. Please do the SEC proud and show these fools that football is not a game, but a way of life.

Note: Poster said he lived in the state and gave an opinion about the state. He didn't claim to be an OU historian. As for the geography lesson, no one cares.

This is a load of bull. Don't act like the SEC is the only damn conference with hardcore fans. That's wrong and you know it.

I am sure there are crazies over there... however, the number of hardcore followers cannot be compared.

All you have to know is that Eric Ainge is from Oregon.

He never considered staying at home.

uh huh, had nothing to do with another qb waiting his turn behind kellen clemens :eek:lol:

EA was way too talented to sit on the bench, going to UT was the smart move

I completely agree. But they are also the most overhyped program. They almost have as many bandwagon fans as the gators.

Of all the games to generate smack talk I never would've predicted it would the Oregon game. It is going to be a great season!

So, Not really sure where to post this but may start new thread if if it needs it. I live in Louisville and today the city hosted an Ironman Triathalon tour event. After the event was over I talked to some of the professional competitors. The competitiors are based out of Oregon state, they said the worst part of the race was the "southern humidity". Said it was impossible to prepare for. I camw away encouraged for the football game. Lets hope the Ducks fold in the second half. If the highly trained triathaletes have trouble, lets hope the football team has trouble.

The game starts at 7pm, I doubt the heat will be unbearable by then

the game may start as 7, but they may wear themselves out during the day. The Ironman competitors started at 6 am. They wore down during the day. Hopefully the weather works to the vols advantage.
