Since there is nothing for you to base that opinion on, I'll assume it's gas. The burden of proof is on him. No one is going to expect great things out of a guy that has never done great things.

I agree with you...my biggest concern is the tackling I understand we have young players but if you cant tackle you shouldn't be in the SEC. thats what the WAC,and MWC, conference are for...also just a little side question why do defensive lineman feel like when they get through the line they gotta put there hands up instead of charging at qb and making a huge sack...Now i've played football my whole life and know alot about the sport i understand if you know you cant make the play put your hands up and block it down..but maybe 7-8 times tonight i saw the defensive player get through the gap and just throw there hands up.....RUN THROUGH THE QB...even if he gets the ball off you got maybe a second were you can hit him knock him down....ask any qb, knockdown feels the same as a sack they add up and the qb will start throwing off back foot!!!! but we need to overcome this week and step up against the gators!!!! GO VOLS

I didn't blame the loss on Simms. I just pointed out what every sane person watching the game saw. And that was that Simms sucked. I personally think Bray could have done just as good as Sims tonight and could use the experience.

I didn't read through all of this, but am I the only one who thinks the pass protection was pretty good tonight? I didn't see Simems getting pressured that often, even with teams knowing they could stack the box and put less pressure on receivers, allowing them to be wide open to dive ten yards short of Simms' deep balls. It didn't seem that bad at all, but that's just one man's opinion.

Wow Eric. Totally agree with Lawvol on this one. I can't believe you dont know that Oregon sold out to stop the run. If that didn't help Simms I don't know what will.

8. WRAP IT UP!! No, I'm not talking about safe sex, I'm talking about fundamental tackling. We had too many attempts at Eric Berry type hits tonight, and it killed up. They will work on this, but it's going to be an issue the first part of the season.

9. The crowd was FREAKING electric!! Loved the noise, but they got killed the 2nd half.

10. I hope that the detested fans that left tonight understand where we are right now, and show up next weekend. I'll be there rooting them on, win or lose. This season is going to be like this, please don't punish the team because of it. Go support them and let them know you don't want them to quit midway through the season. We have some fickle fans right now, that's for sure.

All in all, I like our performance. I'm not too enthralled about losing, but I understand where we are as a team. We had a great first half, but I think we probably over thought the second half adjustments. Still hated losing, but was so glad to see the play an actual team. We will learn from this, so be patient.

1. Depth is hurting us more than youth. With the exception of missed tackles in the second half, the young guys are pulling their load.

2. The starting defense is fast enough. Janzen was caught out of position (couldn't tell if it was the play call obviously) on the long TD run. He was stalled in the backfield. We do need a gamebreaker at skill positions and in the return game.

3. The QB position in general is/has been a problem since Notre Dame broke Eric Ainge in half. Simms is missing open receivers, is obsessed with the out route, and has time to throw the ball.

4. The run blocking was good. Pass protection was marginal, but sufficient. Simms has to get rid of the ball. OL is better than I thought it would be.

5. The storm should have helped. The extra rest is what we needed. Oregon's hurry up and our depth killed us.

6. With the exception of the punt return we had people in position to make plays.

7. Agreed.

8. Missed tackles were a combination of technique and youth. No excuse for the one JJ missed.

9. Seemed good on TV.

You forgot the most important thing and that was to thank Phillip for not going and getting decent recruits and leaving our cupboards so empty that Eric Berry and a handfull of other recruits were all we have, and that he has now really embarreased the program that he loves SO MUCH! WOW the second half really showed how far we have to go to even compete with talent, Pleanty of HEART.................They did the best with what we have!
If you don't have the clubs in your bag then lay up!

geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez have u simms haters ever watched organized football before. simms is responsible for the ducks getting at least 7 yds on every run play the second half. sure the kid threw an ill advised pass. but that was the only one. lets look at the DROPsies at the WR position. numerous balls were dropped. WR have to help the QB. would like to see simms pump fake to pause the incoming rush tho. pass protection is also a weak link. simms cant throw it from his back. and Bray has talent but is wild and inaccurate.

WRs aren't helping him. That is a fact, but we are simply too limited at QB to compete with elite talent. Shouldn't be that hard to recognize/admit/swallow.

This not Hamiltons fault , he like all of the other AD's we have had. They have always made sure the resources are there for what ever was needed for our program....Our recruiting budget example..........Its not his fault that Fulmer was loyal to his coaches and failed to make the right choices for his staff and The Program that He LOVED SO MUCH! SO find a new horse ride!

You hit the nail on the head and as you well know its hard to swallow! Im just praying that some talented kids saw our slaughter last night and said thats where I want to play! I said I was praying very hard!

After 2 games, and we are all ready saying negative things about our QB. Man, if I was a recruit I wouldn't want to come here. We need, to give our coaches time to work with both QB and O-line. I think Simms will be efficient, a game manager and that's all we need right now. But we have to start with the hosses up front. Where were the running lanes, they disappeared in the 2nd half. Our running game must carry us like it did last year.

Just remember...Game 2...We have many more left, and as long as we see progress in each game we should be able to surprise some teams.

I agree with all of your points with the exception of Matt Simms and possibly the speed issue. Speed can come with experience and stamina. Were we as fast as Oregon across the board. No. As for Simms I have not been a bash Matt Simms poster and am still not. However, what I saw was a coaching staff that understood his limitations and tried to put him in a situation where he could be successful. He simply can't make some of the throws that are necessary that he make against a quality opponent. I also read other posts about him staring down his receivers and was hopeful he would not do that but he did. If the young guys on this team find a way to deal with fatigue and disappointment we can win out in November and go to a bowl. If not we will be better next year.

Was at the game last night, great atmosphere and 9/11 activity...
on the game I think we have the talent (1st team) to man up and beat anybody, a long as we control the clock. I think defeat comes in when we make mistakes, stupid penalties, turnovers, etc. then our lack of depth shows and the defense gets gased.

I thought the offensive line performed pretty well, and for those talking about running in the second half I thought Oregon stacked the box and forced to pass and most of the pressure of Simms came from blitzes.

I hardly ever give Hyams credit for much, but he had a pretty good line.


UT played 3 under through the first 8 holes. Then triple bogeyed the 9th.

We controlled the game for 25 of the first 30 mins. And had nothing to show for it.
If we finish the first half we are up 10 to start the second.

The biggest of our problems right now is a lack of depth, lack of experience, and youth across the table.
