Thanks Mom and Dad Vereen for sending your son our way. I know he will have a great future in any endeavor he chooses. I am very glad that his experience was a great one. The support of a loving family is the biggest thing in any young person's life.

I didn't realize Dobbs was that close until after the game....then I thought of the dropped passes in the game. Is it just me but when Dobbs runs he looks like he's jogging because he is so smooth. He outruns the defense and looks like he's out for a Sunday stroll through the park.

He'll be missed!

I have always thought the same thing about Dobbs' running the ball. He is smooth. Almost like a gazelle with bounding strides. I can't compare him to anybody else that I've seen. He covers ground deceptively fast and it almost seems effortless for him. I could visualize a backfield with him at QB, him at RB, him at slot receiver, and him at WR. He's an extraordinary athlete.

-This year's bowl game wasn't the level of bowl we had all hoped for, but three straight bowl wins for the first time since 94-96 is a step in the right direction for the program.

-It was good to see Tennessee's defense get back on track. Granted, Nebraksa was missing some key players (Tennessee is quite familiar with how injuries can impact a team), but the 61 rushing yards allowed was the fewest the Vols have given up to a Power Five conference team since 2008.

-This year Josh Malone looked more like the football player we'd all been expecting. He recorded 972 receiving yards this season which is 10th in school history.

-I'll really miss Alvin Kamara and wish him the best of luck at the next level, but we saw a glimpse of the future with John Kelly. He ran for 70 yards and a TD on 15 carries and continued to tote the rock with attitude. I'm excited to see what he's capable of next year as 'the guy.'

-What can you say about Derek Barnett? He's a beast. I've said all year I thought he was underrated. His attitude, his work ethic, and his performance on the field -- he's the complete package. But one of the things that stood out most to me was just how happy his teammates were for him when he broke the sack record. And I like this comment from Derek: "I think Reggie probably helped on that. (Laughter) I think he was looking down. I think he probably tossed a little bit for me --

-For those who thought the stadium would be empty yesterday due to fan apathy, it was a sellout. Bravo, Vol fans, for supporting the team and these young men who gave their all for Tennessee this year.

-Complain all you want about Mike DeBord, but Tennessee scored 63 touchdowns and 473 points this year, both single-season school records. The 521 yards of offense yesterday was the second-most in a bowl game in school history. Not bad for a former administrator of Olympic sports at Michigan, as some like to harp on.

-And last but certainly not least, what can I say about Josh Dobbs. He's probably my favorite player on the team: he's explosive, exciting to watch, and on numerous occasions, he's put this football team on his back. Not to mention the great work he's done for the community, all while taking on a class load that would be unbearable for mere mortals.

By my count, his 7,138 career passing yards rank fifth in Tennessee history, and he's only the third quarterback in SEC history to throw 15 TDs and rush for 10 TDs in multiple seasons (Tim Tebow, Dak Prescott).

Dobbs totaled 3,777 yards this season (2,946 passing and 831 rushing) which is 12 short of Peyton Manning's season record of 3,789 in 1997.

In 2017, it's next man up at quarterback, but my guess is we'll miss Josh Dobbs more than most think.

How long until the Orange and White game?

Go Vols!

For the record, Dobbs had 27 TD passes, 13 Rushing TDs and 1 Receiving TD...41 Total Touchdowns.

Pretty darn good!

DeBord was like Jekyll and Hyde this year... almost like someone was messing with his head at times. Strange. But... he managed to show he could run an offense.

Excellent observations! Good to end the season with a positive win.

I am going to miss the players that are leaving. They have been instrumental in turning the program around and laying a good foundation for team 121.

Very similar to Matt Jones from Arkansas from a mobility standpoint.

Why? Because he made honest observations based on FACTS?

Because the majority of our fan base focuses on the negative and looks for any opportunity to tear down the players, coaches and the program in general.

Understand the comment now or should I explain it further?:ermm:

Corey is exactly the kind of young man the staff here should always recruit. Attitude goes a long way and Corey has had a great attitude as both a student and a player. I am guessing his parents had a little something to do with that. Do you have any more future Computer Scientists/DE's? Good luck to you all in the future!

Didn't realize he was a computer science major. Superb choice, btw. So many jobs out there as long as he keeps his skills fresh during whatever athletic career he has.

We were very blessed to have your son as a Vol! He was relentless on the field but what I remember the most was listening to him this year in post game pressers. He was an intelligent, respectful individual, and that does not happen by accident! You must be awfully proud..

Love it when Dobbs cuts-back and reverses the field. A thing of beauty.

Great reading Freak. You hit the nail on the head. Can't wait to see what Coach Jones, et al can put together next year... this was certainly an interesting year, but it is great to end on a high note with some outstanding Team and individual accomplishments... they will not be forgotten and are true VFL.

Go Vols!!

Nice write up, Freak. One of the things with Dobbs I was impressed with this year was how much he improved on the deep ball. He was genuinely bad at it last year, and he worked on it with the coaches and it became a real strength this year. Just goes to show that kids with good character and a good attitude can take coaching and improve. I hope Dobbs gets an NFL shot; who would have thought Dak Prescott was that good prior to this year. With more coaching Dobbs can be every bit as good, in the right system. Good luck young man! GO VOLS!

If he does, I am that team's newest fan. Good luck to all our seniors!!

As a Vol fan, I beg to differ. The Vol fan base extends a lot further than this message board. Consistently sold-out home games and well-traveled away games do not support your comment, and while there are some who do seem to take more pleasure in the negatives, I would say there are far more who recognize football as just a game and enjoy it as pure entertainment. This post is not meant in any way to "call you out". I respect your opinions and your right to express them.

One of my favorite threads of the year! VOLNATION showed up in force and true fans. Except for the one scuffle all over the Internet, I only heard positive comments about VOLS and Cornhuskers. Go Big Orange!

Outstanding analysis Sir Freak!

Mr and Mrs Vereen,

My THANKS to you for coming here and opening your hearts to us.

I have no idea how you could stand so many of the negative, hate filled posts here on VN but I appreciate your coming here and making such a fabulous post.

Your family has so many reasons to be proud of your son who came to Tennessee as a well raised, successful very young man from high school.

During his years at Tennessee he's grown in so many ways as a student, footVol player and as a fine young man.

He's endured many tough times and been a big part of the foundation of UT footVol that helped rebuild our great program back to being respected again from a total dumpster fire.

Through all those tough times I'm sure that buTch and our coaches have helped him some but there's no doubt that you and your wife were huge motivators and life coaches for him.

You and all your family and all your friends should be extremely proud of him and the achievements he's made so far in his young life.

If we had more like him we would Win the SEC every year.

If he wants to play in the NFL then I certainly pray that he gets his opportunity because we all know he'll give all he's got to succeed like he gave his all for Tennessee.

I greatly appreciate him and your family for allowing us to be a tiny part of his life these last 4 years and enjoying watching him suit up and play for our beloved Vols.

No matter what he does from now on he will be a very successful and fine man.

It's great to have him as a VFL!

May God bless you all and be sure he reads this thread of appreciation to him.

VFL...GBO!!!

An overwhelmingly positive thread, with the parents of Vereen chiming in...we still cant help ourselves to keep the narrative up and insult fellow fans.

Good Job Sir
