I have been a Volunteer fanatic ever since I was able to comprehend the game of football. I have seen this program hit it's highs and lows, but right now, in 2008, this is the football version of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. We can blame CPF all we want to, but I think it goes deeper. The Prez and AD are both to blame for letting Fulmer stay on as long as he has. Fulmer really hasn't done anything with this program since 2001. That was UT's last great year. Since 2001, mediocrity has claimed it's throne upon this once proud program.
Something has to give THIS year. We can salvage our program if we do something about it NOW. In 2005, a website devoted to the firing of Randy Sanders was launched. I think we need to do the same with CPF. We need to stop griping and start doing things about it. The fans REALLY do control what goes on in a program. I personally think those boos at the UF-UT game made Nunes decommit. We cant boo the players, even if they make bonehead plays. That shatters confidence, and to the prospective commits, it looks bad. These are young kids we are talking about. We cannot expect them to have thick skin. This isn't Brady, Manning, or Romo throwing the ball, playing in these games.
As far as losing recruits, it will continue to happen until a HC change is made. We are the last school in the conference to make a change. Although the 2003 Tuberville-Petrino fiasco was uncalled for, at least the Auburn brass had the testicular fortitude to DO something. The next year Tuberville went 13-0 with a #2 ranking. I am not saying to keep CPF by any means. The talent pool isnt that bad at UT. CBS and these other idiotic analysts keep talking about talent dropoff. I personally would rather have the 3 to 4 star athletes over the 5 star athletes, due to the fact that these lesser gifted kids will out perform, give it their all on the field. Oregon State USC and 2007 Appy State Michigan proves this theory. Also, gone are the days when a handful of schools get all the talent. Parity has broken down that wall in College Football. It is here to stay. With the RIGHT coach, these kids can beat anybody in the SEC. We should be 4-0 not 1-3. Florida didnt beat us, we beat ourselves. Laying the ball down in the redzone twice, then kicking off to their dangerous PR man, will spell doom on any team. UCLA, we gave them that game, handed them a present just like Stoerner handed us the NC back in 1998. Auburn gave us a gift we wanted to keep exchanging. We couldnt get 20 yards to kick a game winning FG, PATHETIC. I am and will always be a huge fan, but I think we need to stick it out in the seats, while coming out with another strategy to revamp our program, not lead it into its demise.

Agree, but don't you dare compare Jessica Simpson's boyfriend to The Great One

He has done plenty over the last 7 years. We have been and lost in the SEC Championship twice and that is just as many time as Arkansas has lost.

With the recruiting classes he has been bringing in and all the talent that he keeps from leaving the state it's bound to turn around in the near future. Don't quit on him yet, he bleeds orange and has never turned on anybody like we are turning on him.

So cpf is the one who was out their making those bonehead mistakes and costing us those games?
Come on now, our game plan has been solid it is the player excution that has not been up to par. If the players would not have made the mistakes, like dropping a routine hand off multiple times, or punting to the star instead of punting away, we'd be 3-1 or 4-0. Right?

I'm not sure how you strengthen your point by bringing up the example of a great year by a coach who did not get fired despite a disappointing season the year before and a disenchanted fan base. The Auburn brass had the testicular fortitude to do exactly nothing, and it worked out very well.

Sorry, but this is just wrong. Exceptions happen, but there are simply more good and great college players that were rated 5* coming out of college than 3 and 4*. Would you rather have OSU's or Appy St.'s history and outlook for the future, or Michigan's and USC's? Upsets happen, and they may even happen more frequently today than in the past, but if you keep getting better football players coming in than the other guys, you are going to win a lot more football games than they are.

The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet.

I'm guilty of that.

All I was saying in regards to Auburn, is that no matter how shady the situation, the AD acted and almost removed Tuberville. Nobody will try that at UTK

Also, I am NOT against 5 star athletes, Hell, I would love to see UT get some of these guys. Instead we are seeing decommitments which will start a downward spiral, and these guys are 3 and 4 star players.
Coaching does have alot to do with how the players are prepared. If you have a stellar coaching staff, 3 and 4 star players can compete with 5 star players. The game is about passion, the desire to win and execution. USC took Oregon State lightly, thinking they were going to waltz on in there with a victory.

If the standard is "almost," then I'm pretty sure Fulmer will at least "almost" be removed, and I would guess he met that threshhold in '05 and again on at least one occasion last year. I think you are saying that Tubbs must have stepped it up after seeing how threatened his job really was. Well, if that is what you are looking for, I can guarantee that Phillip feels threatened.

I agree. You can't blame him if the UT administration keeps throwing the big dollars at him. That talk about him entering law school at one time was probably true.He certainly has a gift to gab no doubt.
