It was an overreaction from the beginning. A&E should have simply issued the statement about how his views were not consistent with their own, and move forward.

They dont need to say anything. He's an actor on a tv show, much like Alec Baldwin. Nbc didnt issue a statement for their many Snl skits that he appears in.

2014 NDAA passed on Friday and all anyone can talk about is some guy got fired for making comments his employer deemed unacceptable. Amazing and predictable all at the same time

Conspiracy IMO. A&E set it up with Phil so no one would see or care it passed.

How has Cracker Barrel been known to be anti-gay? They should have just kept their mouthes shut and conducted business as normal. I doubt anyone would have given much thought to them selling Duck Dynasty merch.

I keep seeing comments about Freedom of Speech. How in the world does this have to do with Phil's 1st amendment rights?

It doesn't in the legal sense.

All I can figure is the philosophy of not being punished for speech but it's clearly not a 1st amendment issue.

There wasn't a uprising from gays. They understood. Yet people of the government and big shots made a huge deal about nothing. He isn't suspended. The show goes on.

I am still trying to figure out what exactly he said to garner the ire of Jesse Jackson. I really didn't see anything racist at all in that interview.

Of course, that's never been a prerequisite for Jackson to open his mouth about something he really didn't need to attempt to speak intelligently (or lack thereof) about anyway.
