I can already imagine some of the responses I will get to this, but let me tell you guys what I'm hoping for. I didn't like losing to UGA, and we could have played a lot better than we did, but I saw a few signs of life here and there. I think it is conceivable that we could win out, especially if Stephens gets more and more comfortable. Alabama is our toughest matchup, and they have come close to laying an egg or two (e.g., their game against Tulane). Plus, we're at home. If we win out, including the bowl game, we go 9-4, which is not ultimately what we all want, but it would be a nice recovery, especially considering our poor QB play to start the year. If we do that, we could perhaps snag a good recruiting class and turn things around for the future (a la what Joe Paterno has done after some hideous years). That's what I'd like to see happen. I don't know if it will happen, but I'm pulling for it. Let the fiery darts begin!

And who will be coaching so that UT can pull all that off?

And another thing, why do people think the Vols will get better and basically assume that future opponents this season will not?

I wish I could believe the way you do. I would if Isaw MORE life but we can't run the ball in the least and Stephens will be in his third SEC start against a VERY WELL COACHED AND FIRED UP bAMMA TEAM.

We may score a few more points but we will lose to the horrid maroon wave by at least 21 points.

Phil Fulmer. Just like Joe Paterno is currently coaching at Penn State. He had some very, very bad years prior to this one.

We will know when we hit absolute rock bottom when people quit trying to find a way that things turn out alright this season. Next week we will be told how we can finish 8-5 because the team looked ok against Mississippi State and was only a "few" plays away from winning it. But I bet if Alabama really lays the wood on us, the last few doe-eyed dreamers will begin to realize where we really are as a football program.

We are not going to a bowl.

I want Fulmer gone. That is my biggest wish for the remainder of the season.

In your scenario, Fulmer stays. Bad. Very Bad.

Refresh my memory, when was CPF's last Conference Championship?

Never mind. I remember now; it was in the last Century.

Penn State did have some rough times recently and recovered nicely...with JoePa at the helm.

You showed a 5 year cycle then a Big10 Championship in 2005. Now this year they are also doing well.

We are on a 10 year cycle and things look bleak. How much more time?

Yeah, it's tough that we haven't won the conference in a decade, but you can see the improvement this year.:crazy:

2 sec championships in 17 years and phil is annointed prince. I guess some people see phil as a joe pa. That is misconstrued and ridiculous.

Who ever said anything about anointing Phil prince? I simply said that I didn't know if it would happen, but it is conceivable that we could win out, salvage a good recruiting class, and recover like Penn State has done with Joe Pa. If it doesn't happen (and it certainly may not), then I could agree that a coaching change may be needed. Be careful about how far afield you go from the original comments.

Whether it be you or others. Someone has a twisted idea that phil should be given joe pa status. I got news for you 9-4 is a pipe dream. Its not happening.

Were not winning many battles on the recruiting field either anymore. Were getting guys the bigger programs passed over and its starting to show. One bad class or decent class because of a coaching change isn't going to kill us. This staff doesn't get much out of the talent they do get. So having another good recruiting class isn't going to instantly change peoples mind about what needs to be done.

Joe pa also hires competent assistants.

No one ever gave Phil Joe Pa status, either. I'm simply saying that a good finish could lead to a turnaround analagous to what Joe Pa has done. That doesn't amount to anointing Phil as prince or Joe Pa.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we haven't sunk to the point of only winning three to five games for three or four years running like Penn State did, so I'm not ruling out the possibility of a rebound.

As for assistants, I, for one, think Cutcliffe was a good assistant. I don't know if Clawson will turn out to be good or not, but I do know that most everyone was praising the move before the season began. We can't say, "Great hire," prior to the season and then, "You can't hire good assistants," after a rough stretch. Even if Clawson fails in the end, I think it is a bit presumptuous to say such things about Fulmer's ability to choose assistants.

And they have not sunk to the point of 0 Championships in 10 years and counting. Seasons like this would be easier to digests if he did what his boss stated was the expectation; 2 championships in 10 years.
