One of the Tennessee Football Media Guides I had in the mid 70’s had us up in the top 2 or 3 in this stat if my memory is correct.

The above in the OP is rather misleading. Since Alabama and Ohio State are tied for second, Norte Dame should be 4th, and all the following schools would drop a spot. Since Oklahoma/Texas are tied for 4th (really 5th), then all the following schools should drop another spot.
So Tennessee is really tied for 9th and maybe out of the top ten by the end of next year if we have a so so season.

Found what I was looking for from old Media Guides

This was another bragging point I remember

Those are talking about the last 50 years (as of 1975) and from 1966-72. Both are set periods of time. OP's numbers are all-time. The entire history of CFB, so they aren't the same thing. 7th is pretty good though.

Yep, you are correct, I said if my memory was correct. That’s why I looked it up, it was a long time ago. I still thought it was cool to share. Even said on the second one that it was another bragging point back then.

Good point...but I can’t “like“ it!

It was cool to share. Old media guides are awesome to look at. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise.

At some point these all time lists aren’t gonna matter if we keep it up. I grew up in the 70’s...never felt like top team...esp in the mid late 70’s. I just remember everyone psyched when we went to the blue bonnet bowl.
